Rainy with a chance of slow wrote:
20 mph winds with 60% chance of rain of Saturday in NY. No one is going under 4
The back of the pack goes to the front creating a double-wall wind-breaking pacer-pack.
The ultimate sacrifice for the ultimate race.
They'd be legendary. And let's be honest, anyone in this heat is getting athletic scholarship money regardless of whether they run 4:08(true race) or 4:15(due to sacrifice).

At 4,000+ ft , in training shoes, according to him it's the first time he has really tried to do something fast. "First time I've ran 2:02 in a workout"
He looked so smooth.
Put on the spikes and go down to sea level and watch out.
thank you
didn't seem like a very impressive workout to me either, but you don't know how rested he was or where he was in his microcyle. It is the type of workout to do close to a big race - very specific and he didn't kill himself.
That is a decent workout but not anywhere close to indicating sub 4. I was a 3:52 1500 guy in college and that would have been a decent workout for me, certainly not a ball buster and I was never close to sub 4. That workout indicates 4:06-4:10 shape at best
What struck me is how mature he seemed about the process. Very low key, very little pressure on himself. I'd say running that workout at 4600', solo, in trainers, is a pretty good indicator of readiness to go sub 4.
Jason Rexing used to do that workout as a warmup..in trainers.

My prediction was mostly based on the weather forecast. That said, given his 56 final lap (which was smokin') give the fellow another chance in better weather I think he'll come mighty close and just may do it. Unfortunately there just aren't enough miles raced anymore which really is just a damn shame, isn't it?
