there's no way i'm fast enough. i'm averaging like 18-19 mph on my rides. put on a little weight too since being injured. 145lb and 5'10''. they'll probably leave me in the dust.

I just a K2 Astral.
I know nothing about bikes and can't comment on any of the responses.
It just looked right and felt right so I bought it.
I have a 2007 Specialized Tarmac and 2008 Trek X02 cyclocross bike. I want a tri/TT bike though...
Bikes are pretty fun. oatmeal + water, you're fast enough to go on some group rides. There are plenty of B team rides that average 14-15 mph and won't drop someone.
been riding a Fuji Touring Series for 14 years. Kept it in pretty good shape. Steel frame, long top tube, very comfy. The big brother just upgraded and handed down his '98 Trek USPS carbon bike, full Dura Ace. Wow, what a difference it makes. Rides that used to wear me out are now little more than warm ups.
2013 Giant Defy Advanced 1 Carbon.
Hope to ride 100 miles or more per week this summer.
2001 Titus Drop-U aluminum frame with Kestrel fork and Ultegra components. Has something like 30,000 miles on it--some years I've ridden more than others. A good aluminum frame is a beautiful thing.
2001(ish) Trek 5500. US Postal Service logo... got it about 1 week before the whole Lance ordeal.
2001 Lemond Zurich (ultegra)
1986 Centurion Ironman Dave Scott edition (Shimano 600)
I like steel.
I ride an Eddy Merckx EMX-5 with Record 11. Kind of my baby. Got into riding after graduating college. Ride with the guys from work at lunch. Usually 16-20 miles. Then longer on the weekends. It's fun to go fast on that thing!
Cannondale Super X with Red
Marin Highway 1 - flat bars, full carbon and ultefra for the roads
Marin bear valley for trails.
Softride powerwing 650, got it in 95 or 96, very comfy ride. Also have a custom Clark Kent but it's not built up since I got rid of my 700c wheels.
Cannondale System Six Carbon
you know you can transfer track workouts to biking work outs so you get some speed etc in instead of doing same old same old every single day? I do tri / du every summer and my team basically transfers over track style workouts when riding.
I ride a 10yo KHS cyclocross bike. Can easily keep up in group rides and take shortcuts on dirt to upset the real roadies. Lots of fun.
Except for the one shortcut where I ended up in the bottom of a stormwater drain with a dislocated and broken foot. Not as much fun.
I like steel too, although I used to have a 1987 Cannondale SR800 aluminum frame that was ridiculously stiff. Fun bike when you're 25 years old not so sure I would feel the same way now.
Current setup:
--1992 Serotta Colorado LT. A lot heavier than modern bikes are, but a sweet feel, fits great, really fun to ride. Tri bars, it's a blast to show up at the occasional tri with this vintage bike, you get some funny looks for sure.
--1994 Specialized Stumpjumper. Rigid front and rear, had a shock fork but took it off when I figured out it was almost 2 pounds heavier than the stock fork. Bike goes anywhere from doing course measurements to single track in the woods.
I got a great deal on a roadbike. It came with a free casket.
I'm keeping it on the rail-trails for now.
I ride professionally and I don't average that fast on regular rides. And my team provides us with Caad 10 and Evo's, with Force and Red groupsets.
which team do you ride for? weight/height? mileage per day?
my garmin has given me 18.5+/-1 mph on my rides. i have a buddy who manages 20+/-1 mph.
