Me too. There really needs to be one set up, or they should do one at the world championships or something.

34:10 for 10k is 5:07.5 pace per 1500. Her 1500 college best is less than 3 seconds faster.
A 5:04.87 in a 1500 also doesn't indicate anything close to sub 17:00 5k ability and it seems that she has a couple of results indicating she can do that.
There's no way that time was legit, but does anyone have proof? Video from the race?
I thought TFRRS was supposed to be the tool to eliminate bogus times. I guess there are still ways around the system...

Okay, on closer examination she has only run one 1500 and it was a few years ago. Obviously that is a soft PR for her. Still, she has run nothing to indicate that she is anywhere near 34:10 shape.
No way

Yea dude after looking at the results on directathletics you're probably right that she ran a lap short. The people who got 2nd 3rd 4th etc also had a seemingly breakout day when their PR's don't match how well they ran either.
Poor girl. Finishing a lap short is one of the worst feelings in the world (I know the feeling)
I was there. It was a truly incredible race to watch. She and the other D1 runner began lapping people by the fourth lap or so. Then she started to pull away from the Michigan State girl. The entire stadium was going crazy! I can tell you that this was a very legit time from a very fast woman. I'm assuming that she just ran this last 5000 race at a "workout" type pace to qualify in the 5k since she hadn't done that yet. But yes to put an end to this discussion, it was a very legit time.
only 24 lap - drink turtle soup - very surpicuous
Hillsdale is one of the largest and most well-run meets in the U.S. Stupid question, with a whole bunch of far more stupid answerers.
we can see from the directathletics results that its not one of the largest meets in the country. It is a large extremely distance heavy invit. I will take your word that its well run.
The answer to this is easy- if she runs 3530-40 at nationals then its a good bet she ran a lap short. If she runs 3430 or under then its a good bet she didnt. I have no idea except to say as many of you know that sometimes if things are going well in a 10k you can slash a huge amount out of your PR in one race.

Does anyone actually have a good source for where this 16:55 number keeps getting quoted
The following is taken from the write up about the race on the Calvin page. Scroll down
"Most remarkable is the fact that her 16:55 second half of the race would have stood alone as the fifth-best performance at 5000 meters in DIII this season, never mind the fact that she ran another 5000 meters before that point."
http://www.calvin.edu/weblogs/knights/C515so you calling legit doesn't make it so....most agree sometime seems fishy

Okay you DEFINITELY weren't there at the meet...

she's raced 3 5Ks already this year according to directathletics, all well north of 17 minutes, and suddenly 16:55 is jut a workout? she didn't even run that on a gun-to-tape effort at indoor nationals.
Not that hard guys...

The MSU girl that Michmerhuizen destroyed over the second half of the race had already run 16:45 and 4:50 a month earlier. Splitting 16:55 a month later isn't exactly mind-blowing, much less the idea that they ran a lap short somehow.

right and LetsRun is one of the largest and most well-run running message boards in US, so everything it says is legit too...
i know a girl who had a 16:57 5k PR who ran 34:18 for 10k the same season. she later improved her 5k PR to 16:45 or something but hasn't run faster yet.
her race was on flotrack and was definitely 25 laps. she just improved a lot. no biggie
i also set a 10k PR faster than my 5k PR at one point according to my official race results shown in my bios/profiles.

Problem is some people really do tank that badly at nationals and run 1-2 minutes worse. Some coaches have no clue when to peak their athletes, especially in D3. But if she runs like she did at indoor nationals she'll make it a fast race so we should have a good idea of her form.

yeah this is essentially what wejo did when he ran 28:20 or whatever it was with a 29:50 PR. Solinsky also closed his first 10k in 13:25 with a PR of 13:12 so I guess if you get in the right race it's possible numbers-wise.
Then again I've seen it happen multiple times where meets officially miscount laps. It happens too.
Don't forget when Billy Mills won the Tokyo 10K he went through 5K in 14:05. At the time would have been a PB. His winning time was 28:24, though he had never boken 29:00 before.

Big difference is he didn't race 3 5Ks per month for 5 months like this girl does.
