Both girls are awesome. But if it were my kid I like the approach that Baxter is taking. Running on the hs team, keeping things somewhat mello by not traveling around the country for races. She will certainly run in college and partake in all the great experiences that most adults look back at as the best time of their lives. II understand that the Cain's are basically all in when it comes to running and it may or may not pay off. Just my opinion.

Is is just this country where 17 year olds are sheltered and told not to work their hardest and be all they can be? Cause that is starting to sound lame to me.
SB may not realistically have the opportunity MC does. Could Baxter go be competitive right now in a pro race?

This is correct.
Until Sarah Baxter can compete with pros OR hold a National HS record.. Cain. And no, I'm sorry breaking Mt. Sac isn't holding a national HS record. Put it this way. Baxter breaks Mt. Sac course record by 16 seconds.. Cain breaks NATIONAL HS record in 2 mile by 17 seconds (which is still .94 miles shorter than Mt. Sac)
a 2-mile track race between cain and baxter would be closer than most of you think.
If you seriously think that Sarah Baxter would run anywhere within 10 seconds of the new 9:38.68 2 mile record, you need help. Baxter maybe and I say MAYBE could crack 10:00 right now, but it's highly unlikely. Baxter is a hills, and longer distance type. Has she even broke 5 minutes for a mile? 5:06 at Mt. Sac doesn't count. Sarah Baxter is outstanding.. Mary Cain is a prodigy.

No, this is the country where we try to not let agents pimp our youth out (except for football, of course) and let them work their hardest without having the whole village depend upon them. We already have electricity nation-wide, no need for a teen-ager to win enough dough so the farmers can count their cows at night.
Sarah Baxter has run 4:45 during a 4x1600 relay. Otherwise she never runs the 1600 or 800 outside of dual meets. She will without a doubt be under 10 this year. I say 9:53-9:55. She ran 10:08 last year and she is clearly in far superior shape after that cross country season.

besides it wasn't like the race was even close, Baxter won very very easy....just maybe Baxter could of run faster if challenged.

I think you're overestimating how hard it is to crack 10:00 for 2 miles... she was probably in good enough shape to run in the mid/high 9:50's during cross, and she'll probably be a little faster than that this spring (maybe under 9:50, maybe not... a lot would depend on how the race unfolds rather than her talent)
Yes, she seems more like a distance/strength runner than a speed/track runner. The opposite of Cain. But that doesn't mean she can't run a good 2 mile.
I've said this a few times on here, but I'll say it again...
This seems a lot like 2001.
Cain playing the role of Webb (GOAT track type athlete, particularly in the mile but can step up to 2 miles or down to 800)
Baxter playing the role of Ritz (GOAT cross country type athlete, and can run very well in the 5k and 2 mile in track)
Neale playing the role of Hall (very close to them in cross country, not sure of her place on the track - she seems better at longer stuff, more like a Steeple/2 miler, but she focuses a lot on 800/1600 because her teammate is potential top-3 finisher at State 3200 and they don't any other potential state scorers in the 800)... of course, Cain and Baxter being juniors it isn't quite the same, but the comparison of the athletes abilities, accomplishments and events on the track remains the same.

Salazar only starting coaching Mary Cain in October of last year and given his long term approach to training she definitely wasn't gonna see immediate results (only a month or two) and most likely his direction wasn't on winning NXN. He thinks bigger and more long term than that.
