ok, I did some research - this is a 2.93 mile course, not a 5k. I thought Baxter had run a 5k on that course in 16 flat.
At 2.93 miles, it is around 60 seconds short of a 5k. So maybe a mt sac xc race does equal a track 5k.

Oh please. How many times have we seen this before? A HS superstar that everyone falls in love with and then once she gets to college fades away while everyone waits patiently for her big moment. Lately it seems that the girls who weren't superstars in HS come out booming in college. This girl is obviously super talented but let's not start comparing her to the likes of Abbey, who has barely scrapped the surface of her potential. You can't compare HS athletes to college athletes because of the training. Let's see how this girl does under real college training, will she handle it or just burn out like a lot of HS superstars do once they hit the college scene.

That's the way she is in all of her interviewers. She's just shy...simple as that, nothing is wrong. She lets her feet do the talking.
As a freshman, Baxter was 4'8". As a sophomore, she was 5'0". She is now 5'6". She has grown a lot and still has her athletic body. I think she'll be fine and will be a great 10k runner down the road.
Ummm college training isn't the same as HS training you moron. Higher mileage, more tempos, weight lifting, sometimes even doubling.

newsflash #1! these are all things that people do in high school also. No such thing as "college training" or "high school training". There is just training well and not training well.

I'm not even going to bother arguing with you because you don't seem to realize that there is a different intensity of training in college than in HS. This girl will become irrelevant in 2-3 years. She'll get to college and become over trained and burned out. Clearly, YOU are the delusional person because I never said anything about girls burning out in college. Obviously, you are arguing with an invisible man or yourself (either indicates that you are crazy).
There's not some random increase in training and intensity when you get to college. From all of my experiences as well those of friends who went to other schools, the coach will look at your training history and then add in something reasonable or will let your training be more or less the same as your high school training. The college coach will not just blindly dump q bunch of intensity and new things on you. And no distance runner does a truly intense weight lifting routine.
This is especially the case for women because their event essentially stays the same (1k is not a significant increase).

Well, only 6 months ago the last person to challenge Sarah was this girl named Laura Hollander, and she could Definitely challenge Abby D right now based on her Wisconsin results!
How would this stack up against Schiro's 16:46 for the 5k at VCP?
Its a silly high school thing to try and compare a cross country course time to a track time. Its who you beat and the time you run to compare to all the past times run on. She is now at the top of the list , no one has run faster on this course.
As long as its on the same course , surface conditions and weather can play in for faster or slower days. Sarah had a fast day.
Its impossible to know how her high school days will pan out to competing in college. No matter what happens now , she is a west coast legend until the next athlete breaks 16 on the course.
By the way, some of Hasay's races at Mt SAC were in the Footlocker Regionals and they were on the 5km course that finishes on the track, so they are not comparable. Also, since that is the qualifying race and only a week before the Finals, the athletes are not usually 'all-out' unless they have to be.

This is just nonsense. No way is she anywhere near 5'6" tall. If you stand next to her, it is apparent that she is 5'1" or 5'2". At this point, the physical maturation of her body has obviously been repressed (as is the case with many young female athletes). Take a look at her parents, and you'll get a better idea of the type of body she will have after she goes through puberty.
Hasay ran Mt. Sac (2.93 mile course) every year at the Invite and you'd better believe she was all out. 16:27 was her best time, which at the time was second to Trotter's CR (now it's #3 all time).
