That's not speed, that is pure strength.

Most o these guys, especially the Stanford types who tend to have intellects, should be forging a career that will actually pay them over the long term.
He has a post graduate scholarship. hell still do grad school. Why not run and get paid? He probably will sign for more than he would make in a real job fresh out of school. Gets sweet benefits such as worldwide travel etc.
Fair enough. However, if he is doing a serious graduate school program, e.g., an MBA at a top school, he will be unable to make a serious commitment to both. Therein lies the problem.
If he wants to run a couple of years as a pro, then go back for a Stanford MBA os similar, that is probably the best of both worlds.
Amen.
From Stanford's athletic's page...
"An economics major with an interest in law"
"2009 and 2010 USTFCCCA Academic All-American for track and field ... first team Pac-10 All-Academic for cross country in 2009 and for track and field in 2010."

I bet Nike is paying Lebron James 100 times what Derrick is being paid.
Drug cheats in the Nike box at Pre. Supporting drug cheat cyclists. Paying foreign workers pennies to make product. I don't see why you people continue to support this company.
i thought we were supposed to hate Nike...

anyone know what he's doing graduate work in? he is a very smart kid, and it seems like it is almost a waste for him to focus on running even though he's a 27:30 guy.
what are the chances that he will 27:30 good at anything else in his life
smart my ass
smart is a dime a dozen

I bet Lebron James is providing 1000 times the value to Nike that Derrick is providing.
I don't see why some of you people continue to fail to understand free market capitalism.

Is it a prerequisite that you have to be with Kimbia to be with Schumacher? I don't believe Derrick is with Kimbia.
While most of Jerry's athletes are with Kimbia, Kara Goucher isn't. Lisa Uhl wasn't either.
He would have to be really really frickin smart for him to be wasting his talent running instead of doing something with his smarts.
There are maybe like 100 people in the world that could potentially be running 27:30 right now. I guarantee he's not in the top 500 at anything else he could be doing, and he probably never will be.
If it's about money as opposed to maximizing your ranking worldwide in something (??), I guarantee the average lifetime income of the top 100 runners is less than that of a MBA from a top school
1:56...pshhh
Chris is permanently staying around Palo Alto even after grad school.

You sir, are an ignorant fool.
The reality of the world today, is that almost all manufacturing is sourced in China/Vietnam/Indonesia/Taiwan....that is where the lowest costs are and is part of what allows many products to be affordable for consumers and at the same time allows companies to remain profitable.
There was one instance in a Nike sub-contracted factory like 20 years ago. These same instances have been happening with thousands of other companies, but activists decided to attack the "big guy". Nike still took responsibility and made significant changes.
Spend 5 minutes researching on the internet, and you will actually find that Nike has THE BEST factories today in terms of labor practices and compensation. They have won multiple awards for this.
In terms of your doping comments. Nike has said over and over again that they do not support the use of PEDs in any way. They are also known for having strong loyalty to their athletes, which is why I'm sure it was a difficult decision to finally cut ties with Lance....especially considering the LiveStrong foundation had raised almost half a Billion dollars for Cancer Research.
So, Mr. iquitbuyingit, just do some research before making your incompetent claims.
Sorry to get off topic. Good luck to Mr. Derrick.
Are you Salazaring your veins with Meningitis contaminated steroids ? Nike has an identical Chinese Shadow model to Home Depot, Walmart, Dollar Tree, Target, Dollar General, ... and is controlled by the Red Chinese Shadow CEO in Beijing.

Wait, wait, did you just call someone an "ignorant fool" and then proceed to talk about how the LiveStrong Foundation has raised "almost half a billion dollars for cancer research?
Seriously?
Some things are just too funny.

yeah, hilarious isn't it??? I misspoke one word, regardless of what LiveStrong supports, it doesn't change the context of my previous post.
I stand corrected...LiveStrong supports those affected by cancer.
You must have been the kid in school who pointed out meaningless spelling corrections to the teacher when writing on the board.

You my little friend must be the class clown, unable to make it in the real world where comprehending fundamental differences such as that between cancer research and cancer "awareness" are required to make a meaningful contribution. Thus you have been reduced to being a shill for a liar, cheat and overall primo douche bag.
And both of you need to get a life.

LiveStrong is not about cancer awareness...it is about inspiring and empowering those affected by cancer.
I can't believe that you can't even comprehend the difference between cancer awareness and inspiring and empowering those affected by cancer. btw, I am aware that this argument is as equally ridiculous as yours.
