go with Brazil. Portuguese is not that much different from Spanish or Italian. Plus, $50k can go a long way in Brasil.
This. And leave the gf behind. I've been to Rio de Janeiro and the surrounding area... there's no way in hell I'd ever move there already tied down.
Brazil is doing great economically too, plenty of opportunity for a guy with brains.
I would take a close look at Costa Rica. Someone else mentioned Belize and that would be a good alternative also.

#1) Canada... culturally similar to the US but not as economically devastated.
#2) Singapore... reasonably Westernized and has one of the freest and most prosperous economies in the world.
there are not that many other places I would want to go
the "emerging" countries are all a bunch of shitholes
They're all wrong, you should go to Norway, where you will have pretty much the highest standard of living. And when you're a citizen of Norway, you can travel freely in the other countries with the highest standard of living, Sweden and Finland. Though Sweden is best avoided as it's also the world's weirdest country.
England
Germany
Mexico
NZ
France
Ireland
Canada
Thailand
All these countries would do you well
Norway is racist as hell. They especially hate anyone looking half-oriental such as Estonians and Russians.

Just curious how easy would it be to move to any of these countries and be legal to work? Also, why wouldn't Australia be on the list?
If you're bringing the GF along, you should go somewhere where the women are ugly. Like Scotland.
What are you talking about? White Russians are descendants of Scandinavians
chile is a good one. South America is great, but most countries have problems with crime. Chile does not, and Argentina is OK as well.
If they're so racist, why is it so easy to immigrate?
And hating Russians isn't about racism, it's because they're the Russians. Nobody hates Kazakhs, because they're not the Russians.
Off the top of my head I cannot think of a country where Russians are not hated. What goes around comes around.

NZ. It's heaven on earth.
Unless you've got a verified NW of $1mil, you ain't gettin in to NZ as a permanent resident. That's a qualification standard. NZ and OZ are trying to keep out the scum.
canada
Finns hate Estonians since the Finns claim Estonians look funny and are a separate mongol race when in reality Finns migrated from Siberia and are Siberian Altaic aka orientals as well. I think it's class hatred though since Estonians provide cheap labor, straight and gay whores to Finland.
ps
Some people mentioned
Costa Rica- is a one horse country, getting more violent from Mex gangs, however I love the country, beautiful, friendly
Chile-Economically difficult to prosper, must come with $.
Argentina- Cant argue with this pick, lots of Hasids, moving as a young person is a good idea
Disagree on Argentina. Great place to visit, but not a good time to move there. The economy is tanking, inflation running amok. Getting harder and harder to get imported goods, cost of living is rising and many things are getting rationed. Expats are starting to flee the country. The country is headed for some serious political unrest in the next few years.
