What's the point of developing American athletes if they're not going to have any idea of what the real world is like when they become pro? The hard fact is that the East Africans are dominating the sport at the highest level. So what if some lesser talents want to get an education in the US, you know, to try to get out of poverty?

I think they are just amazing. They go to school like everyone else so its BS to call them professionals

Interesting to see probably the best 800 runner in the field, Cas Loxsom, well back at 26:42 for 213th.

If that course has been dry and theres no wind the times that get put up at the NCAA championship is going to look like a track 10k final. Sub 28 for a few guys.

HAhHahahahHA. Not interesting at all. Cas is a long sprinter practically. You don't see the kid running many 1500s and he runs tons of 400s.

Very few American runners have any interest in, or ability, to run "pro." The ones that do will compete with the top pros in the international pro circuit in the US and elsewhere. For the 99%+ of the rest of the Americans, let them compete without East African pro-equivalents ruing it for them. End of story.

Has Loxsom run XC before? I know Andrews did bit I never healed Case mentioned (and since he's a 400/800 guy I wasn't sure)

For those who are so bitter about foreign students running against amateur Americans, then ask US universities to recruit older and faster Americans instead.

I don't think the problem is that they have Africans. I think the bigger issue is that the guy has ZERO success with American athletes. None. Zippo. He is HORRIBLE at developing anyone but Africans.

I hope the Africans keep coming. They raise the level. When Americans complain about the foreign or African recruits it sounds pathetic. As long as it is within the rules then keep bringing them. I will not hold my breath that James Li will ever coach an American to xc all american.

It seems like he just gets better foreign talent. How many great American runners has he recruited?

Isn't Lalang studying pre-med? That's not exactly a cake major, regardless of which university you go to.

Why do you suppose distance runners complain bitterly about East Africans competing in the college meets but we never hear complaints about West Indies athletes like Kirani James competing in the NCAA?
