I had legs like those when training fulltime for Ironman. 30 plus hours per week. Incredibly low skinfolds - 27mm over 7 sites (or was it 8?). When you consider that includes you tummy, there wasn't more than 2 or 3mm anywhere else.
That said I got sick a fair bit and had to wear a wetsuit in the pool or I froze. Beat all the fatties I trained with at least.
Not quite as ripped now that I just run, but not far off.
Galen Rupp is listed as being 5'11 and 138 pounds.
So obviously he has very little body fat.
Not exactly rocket science.

I wouldn't want those legs if I wanted to model. But those are some ridiculously efficient looking legs. Given the offer to switch legs with him, I'd do it in a heart beat.
I agree that some people with veiny legs don't do as well as people with "regular" looking legs. This is by no means a conclusive answer but I think it has to do with how capillarized legs are. Someone with slightly more body fat but a better capillarized system would beat the "veiny" runner any day. A stronger heart would also play a huge role.
How many of you guys actually have legs like Galen? And what are your PRs?

Coming from a yogi, Galen has excellent form and posture, both upper and lower body. stands very upright with strong back, shoulders relatively open and sturdy, most impressed by his hips - which are usually the greatest issue with runners. efficient because he can lift his legs up and out with great ease.
Whoever said 'only attractive to distance runners' very mistaken. galen has a great teacher
Galen looks great to me.
He has an ideal build for a fast distance runner.

Tergat was 6'1", 130. Probably still is.
Rupp = fatty.

He didn't get that physique from running. He is an elite runner because he has a genetically ideal physique for it.
