It is just garbage - some diaspora folks (who live in Washington DC) who resent Haile for supporting the current government in Ethiopia. There are a number of these websites that are run by formal members the communist/derg regime and have no relevance in the modern Ethiopia.

In third-world countries, success in business is not the same as success in business in the US. Success in business in the third-world requires considerable patronage to the ruling powers who control all of the relevant business and development regulations. Having a construction permit application that meets the rules is not enough. People who are able to give the patronage and succeed often unintendedly do so at the expense of others who could not curry favor with the people in power. When the current regime falls, so does the patronage system. Those who lost out often are able to rise to power and seek retribution on those who benefited from the prior regime. That is essentially Haile's position.

these pseudo-journalists are upset that Haile, along with millions of his country men and women wept for the late PM who undoubtedly spearheaded the rebirth of a once great nation.
This seems like a pure propaganda. Someone out there is scared of going to the polls with Haile, so the only thing is to start defaming him slowly.
Haile crying for Zenawi, might have offended some people, but many agree that despite Zenawi's faults, he was better than any of his predecessors as far as developments are concerned.

The previous leader was fairly repressive but did a pretty good job of raising Ethiopia from 'destitute' to 'poor'. That might not sound great but the prior Marxist dictator made it one of the poorest places on earth (while probably making a handful of cronies rich).

There is zero chance that this happened. There is no way Geb took a regular taxi ("blue donkey") to the airport. More likely, the taxi driver is not a Geb fan because he is suspicious of Geb's connections to the Meles regime. Addis taxi drivers are generally about as anti-Meles as you can get, and truth is no obstacle when it comes to Ethiopian politics (or any politics really, eh Mr. Ryan?).
What is wrong with not giving a tip? A tip is optional. A tip should only be given for stellar service and treatment. Perhaps he should have been a better cab driver. Simply driving for 30 minutes is not doing Geb a favor unless you're doing it for free.
Did he pay for the cab ride? Did the payment cover more than just the cost of gas?
