This is one of the most high profile programs in the nation. Pretty frustrating for the athletes, parents, alumni and fans.

Imagine if Stanford football didn't have a coach 11 days before their first game?

Although you certainly wouldn't see it in football, it's not as big of a deal as not having a coach. It's not like there's absolutely no one in the position. Plumer is the interim head coach and they have an assistant who is familiar with the program. It's certainly not a long term ideal to have a person in their second year coaching as the head coach of such a big program but coaching isn't as big in XC as it is in football.

And unlike football, most cross and track coaches do the coaching and also make travel/hotel arrangements, book vans, act as head and 'position' coaches, function as sports psychologists, etc.

There is plenty of complication in distance coaching, it just doesn't all have to do with x's and o's.

We are talking about cross country coaching (not the head track coach) vs football. None of those things you listed are complicated.

PSP can hold down the fort this year. Stanford fired Floreal and Dunn to soon before the new A/D from Delaware showed up. He wants Padilla but Doug loves Provo and doesn't want to come home to the Frisco Bay Area. Maybe the A/D should promise to build an LDS Temple since Moscow 2013 is less than a year away ;-)

Are you mental? Floreal left for greener pastures. Dunn went with him on his own free will. The AD was hired well after both decided to leave. He hasn't even started yet.

I find it so entertaining that Stanford people keep insisting that Edrick and Jason and the other coaches who left were fired. I guess they have a hard time admitting that someone would actually turn their back on them and leave. Rejection is tough, I guess.

Please provide evidence that ANY of those people were fired. Evidence, meaning: First-hand testimony, documentation, etc. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just want to see it with my own eyes, and not feel I'm just hearing rumors about "firings."

There is no proof. We have a person here throwing dirt on the reputations of people and Stanford University simply because no one on LetsRun.com choses to hold people accountable for their postings.

With people like this person posting garbage there can be little question why our sport has limited appreciation.
