Maybe you're just trolling, but I don't know how a 1:20 1/2 marathon is running well. Do you realize that's 6:06 pace? Uceny can run a mile under 4:20. Running 6:06 pace for that far is a decent workout, but certainly not impressive as a race effort.

what's interesting about this half is that she was willing to do that kind of training run, whereas many 8/15 types do not run any half marathons, even as training runs. she should have added endurance with this sort of workout. Terrence Mahon's not Lagat's coach. That's James Li.

What could Alan Webb or Nick Symmonds run?
I don't know if this helps any. I'm a male 800/1500m runner who also does 4x4s. I've run a half marathon as a "training run/tempo" in 1:12. It wasn't hard respiratory wise but legs felt a little wobbly at the end. someone like alan webb whose run mid 27 for 10k and 13:10 5k could def run 62 or better. nick symmonds on the other hand, probably more like 69-70
80 minutes for a half-marathon is a pretty poor outing for someone of Uceny's abilities.
At first I thought y'all were just being negative but possibly you're right: the Daniels calculator puts her marathon at 2:24 and her easy pace in the 6:30s. Still, it's probably a reasonably hard effort for her, and the long long tempo runs -which this was- are probably good for her ability to stay strong through the rounds.
Webb is a 27:30 guy.
Nick Symmonds (obviously less distance oriented than webb) was apparently well under 25 minutes for 8k cross.
I think both of them can hold their own over a half marathon.
Hell, even KD said he ran a 14:59 5k
I agree. I was a miler. I have a 1500 PB of 4:11. I have a half marathon PB of 1:14.
If Morgan wants it I'm sure she could be more of a 1:10 or less type half marathoner.

It's her off season and it it's pretty plain from the story that she to Vegas to spend time with a friend and to play blackjack. That was just a long run for her. If she had trained for it, she could obviously have run it faster.

Are you kidding me? How many top female 1:58 800m runners do you think can run faster than 1:20 without special training? Certainly not Maggie Vessey or Alysia Montano. It shows pretty good fitness for an 800m runner to run a 1:20 half.
I think you are the one who's kidding. A 1:20 half marathon for an elite miler should be absolutely routine.

I find it impressive that a 1:58/4:00 runner can maintain 6 minute mile pace for a shade over 13 miles as a TRAINING run. Obviously, some people here do not find it all that impressive. I think it is but then I've never really thought about what a middle distance specialist could run for half marathon
