Hopefully you guys are watching the trail reports on the PCT website. For August, there is an abnormal amount of snow still on the passes - and the long term weather forecast isn't helping things.
I live in the Portland metro area - and this summer hasn't seen a 90 degree day yet - well, maybe one - I travel a bit and may have missed it. Point is, the NW has been lucky enough to stay out of the "heat" the rest of the country seems to have been saddled with this year - and with that, comes the cost of a little more rain than normal, and lower temps...which I, for one, will take over 40+ days over 100 (like Dallas).
Regardless - this probably isn't the year to try and set a record due to the snow issues. But heck, it'd be newsworthy and noteworthy if he actually accomplished it given the conditions.
