In retrospect, I apologize for the remark. I usually try not to be so dick-ish. Anywho, I do agree with people who say BK won't toe the line. I don't think his pride or his agent will let him. You don't just step into a World Championship with no hard races under your belt, especially when you have such an impressive reputation/legacy to maintain.

Oh, wow, VIPAM, you are actually describing your modus operandi in your above assertion. Congratulations on your self examination.

great comeback, Chet. The classic "I know you are, but what am I?"

Chet is so vastly superior intellectually to you people that it is amazing he bothers posting at all. I'd advise him to stop.
Never count out the GOAT.

IN a while.
"AND awhile" or "AND a while" makes no sense whatsoever.
Why the hell is everyone so obsessed with Merga? His PRs, while good, are far from the best, and his tactical racing really hasn't been that great this year. It is certainly more likely that Merga will fail to medal than win the gold. I'm calling it right now, Merga does not make the medal stand.

Ummm...ever heard of glass houses?
I'd say watch out for Jeilan, the dark horse.
I am a fan of BK I think HE IS THE GREATEST distance runner of all time. But I do think that what he is about to do at the world is a tall order for him at this juncture; to be out of the ring for close to two years, it takes some time to get back at that level and we don't know what training and "tune ups" he had to get ready for Korea (WC) so he might run but not be fully ready. But is he "afraid to face Mo amdn Merga" no way! BK is a figher and he is not go down that easily, if he knows he might loose but he will make them pay for it and then he will be fully ready for the Olympics next year and for sure, he will be the only man in history to win three consecutive 10.000 meters.

I thought that if you thought you were going to lose the thing to do was DNF. Have I missed something here?
People proclaiming that someone is "done" in a smug manner is annoying as hell, so I really hope he dominates the 10000. If he doesn't, I see no reason why he can't be 99% fit (he doesn't have to be 100% fit) by London. The guy just turned 29. He's hardly older than Farah. I don't see any reason why he can't return to form.

No, making a house out of glass would be really stupid.
Don't worry. My English is impeccable, but I like to spell names wrong (Bekelo).

Merga is 1-1 against Rupp this year and 0-2 against Farah. He needs to beat those guys consistently before we talk about him beating Bekele.

Nor was he afraid to take on El G or Lagat in the 5K. Nor the entire Kenyan World XC team in the short and long courses.
Bottom line he was always willing to race. His reign may indeed be over. And it's unlikely he will ever achieve the same dominance. But his legacy is intact.
I think his XC performances - winning short and long races on back-to-back days 5 consecutive years is one of the greatest accomplishments in the history of the sport
Lil Ken pissed his shorts every time El G showed up or was rumored to run in the 5000 meters.
It is well documented look it up dude.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Why would KB worry about a guy who got outkicked easily by Mr. Certified.
