What Can Rupp Possibly Do (if anything) To Beat Lagat over 3k??

Rupp can't do anything to beat Lagat, and he won't beat him.

Remember, it is INDOORS. Not easy to pass.

The track is bigger than Milrose, but I'd try to do what Mekkonen did. Take the lead with 3 laps to go, hug the inside, and don't give it up.

Rupp, however, is not Deresse Mekkonen.

Are you talking about Lagat at his peak? In any case mentioning Webb is a joke. Lagat has managed to stay 'at his best' for a nearly a decade. Webb managed 2 season. Wheating to early to tell but I doubt he will match Lagats titles, in fact I would put money on it

I'm saying if Webb can regain 2007 form vs. a 2011 Lagat, certainly not Lagat at his peak. I'm also not talking about Wheating matching Lagat's titles or running 3:26. I am saying that Wheating vs. Lagat in a 1500m in 2011 is more of a toss up than you might think.

If Wheating cannot kick with the 2011 Lagat that is concentrating on winning the 5000, he's going to have a few problems this summer with Kiplagat, Laalou, and Choge.

Webb has beat Lagat numerous times over 1500/mile, mostly in 2007

ok lets get the ish straight....

1. in a race of 1609m or less, wheating has and would continue to wipe the floor with bernard lagat. why? he's younger, faster, smart races, and above all he's too naive to fear lagat, he just tries to beat whoever he races i.e 1500 at monaco last summer

2. webb should not be mentioned, remember running is all about "what have u done lately" not.. speculation like "oh if he was in '07 form". nah he ran 7:50 at UW so lets let the man make a comeback not try to compare him to anyone esp lagat.

3. rupp can't beat lagat at 3k... maybe 5k.... and def 10k. but not i repeat not at 3k. lagats a 15/5k guy so 3k is his bread and butter and would have multiple olympic golds if the 3k was an olympic event. only chance in hell rupps got is to surprise him by going hard with 1k to go, but he has to have been drafting lagat prior to this. if he takes the lead from the gun at altitude it will be the dumbest move ever. just let lagat take the lead and see what he does. if he goes fast stick with him (he won't), if he goes slow, then sit on him save all of your energy til 1k then go H.A.M and try to run the kick out his legs, shock his system, take him off kilter. only way to beat lagat, get the jump first, this is what other africans do to beat lagat, go for it.

lagat will win tho because rupp is a 10k runner, same as solinsky.

now what someone said earlier about webb would be true but its not the case so screw it. i'd actually pick wheating when in good shape to have a better shot at beating lagat at 3k then rupp, he would def beat rupp at 3k. even lomong would have a better shot at beating lagat. u have to have that 3:50 mile speed to beat lagat at his bread and butter event.

Didn't wheating beat lagat in monaco? 3:30 to 3:32 if my memory serves me right. Not that it was a super important race, but still.

Rupp should secretly make a deal with the other guys in the race, besides Lagat, to walk off the track and light up some Cuban cigars when the gun goes off. That would be priceless seeing Lagat racing all alone and the others puffing away on the infield.

The only way I see it happening is for someone else to take the pace for the first 2k and hold it right at AR pace (not sure who would do this), with Rupp in second and Lagat in 3rd or 4th. Then Rupp take the lead with 1k to go and push for all he is worth hoping to get a few meter gap which Lagat will have to cover while tired. This will make it tougher for Lagat to be able to then muster enough to pass on an indoor track while tired at the end.

To pull this off Rupp will need to break the AR and run a near perfect race. Possible but not likely. Maybe 5-10% chance.

Right.

Wow the intelligence on this forum is getting worse and worse. I thought since we were talking about INDOORS we would compare indoor times but I guess that is way to difficult to do on here.
