Rupps 10km in NZ

The pacemaker who was scheduled to be in Christchurch for Rupp was coming from Kenya.

I have heard that he was the first non-selected runner from the Kenyan XC champs on the weekend and has a PR of 27:30.

There were visa issues for the Kenyan athletes as they needed to arrange passports/visas for 3-4 athletes cause the actual pacemaker was determined by the xc selections.

Rupp was going for 27:00 so perhaps now may jump in the 5km in Melbourne next week.

For World Champs qualifier yes it does. It's spelled out quite clearly on the IAAF site. The qualifying window for the 10K goes back to January 1, 2010.

From IAAF:

CONDITIONS FOR THE VALIDITY OF THE PERFORMANCES

Performances must be achieved during the qualification period of 1 October 2010 (1 January 2010 for the 10,000m, Marathon, Combined Events, Race Walks and Relays) to 15 August 2011 (midnight Monaco time).

If you are right about this and this was the 8th or 9th best XC runner on the day in Kenya, this guy could probably beat Rupp even in a 26:58.

Now that Solinsky is in Portland, and Rupp is gunning for the 10k AR, Ritz must just be kicking himself for not making the 10k AR happen for himself the last 2 years ... or 5 yrs. It was bad enough to have the talent before and NOT have gone under 27:13, but now he has to train/live near/with these two guys that actually HAVE and WATN the AR everyday.

Rupp won't be running a 10,000m downunder - Chch is under rubble, and I doubt a race will happen in Oz - kenyan is on the way though... a real shame as would have been a really good record attempt..

Just saw a photo of the track, which is buckled up pretty bad.

As I see it, Rupp and Salazar have a couple of choices:

1. Start your post-indoor break now, a little early. No big deal.

or

2. Get in that hot 5K with Lagat, Teg, Solinsky, (and Mottram?)next week, and take your break a week later than planned.

I'd opt for #2 because that's a darn good field, just for experience sake, and he'll be competitive if the target is merely to get the standard. I'm not saying he'll win, but he'll be in the mix with 200m to go. Why not test yourself. Heck, get Webb in there too.

He's racing over 3000m indoors in Albuquerque in four days.

This is an email from Nick Willis, he is doing all he can to get a good positive meet together in Wellington. Good on him I say, many other are helping.

Dear Athletes,

Due to the tragic events that have taken place in Christchurch these

past 24 hours, we here in Wellington have decided to put on a charity

athletics meet to show our support for those affected.

Specifics of events and the timetable will be confirmed at the

managers meeting this evening, but the plan is for the charity event

to take place from 5pm till 7pm Saturday the 26th at Newtown Park in

Wellington.

There will be both Men's and Women's sprints events (100 or 200

depending on demand), Men's and Women's middle distance events (800 or

1500m/mile depending on demand), and also some field events (depending

on demand).

There will be limited billeting options for those needing a place to

stay, and possibly also airport pickups.

Please contact me if you are wanting a lane in the events, and which

event you would prefer to run, jump or throw.

This is being organised very late in the process, and we will do our

best to cater for the majority of people's needs, but please be

understanding if we are not able to host your desired event, or there

is no room in the race for you.

What a bunch of selfish c***s. People are dead, trapped in the rubble. Who cares. My thoughts & prayers are with the people in need.

This is an event which hopefully means many people in Wellington can get together and help CHCH. I would say that Nick himself will run like S*&t as he has been working his butt of to try and get something together that can raise a lot of money fr the people down there. This is quite the opposite of what you say.

I simple stated that he might need to work a little on his closing speed and would potentially benefit from working with Mo a bit more before going for the record. How is that in any way, shape or form, "disproving or belittling" Rupp?

Obviously, "ridiculous" disagrees with me and states his reasons why in a clear and articulate manner. He makes a very good point about 64/65 sec laps.

Where as you...(or "Yowser") retorts with some kind of infantile spurt that demonstrates his 4th grade intellect. My " worldly possessions" as you call them, are the results of all the hard work, grind and personal commitment I've put in. Nothing been handed to me asshole, I've done my homework pal! Having this moronic exchange though, is "stooping pretty low". It's like talking to my neighbors house plant. Now go somewhere dark and count your pubic hairs!

The meet that is being set up in Wellington is purely for charity. The whole purpose of it is to raise funds for Christchurch and show our support the best way we can, by running fast.
