If you stay in sprints THIS SEASON, then you have to race as a sprinter off your 400 speed, meaning that your 800 race pace will be 2X400 + 15-18 seconds, where it would be 10% slower than 400 pace if you had an endurance base period.
If you don't have an endurance base right now, you have to race as a sprinter--you have no other choice.
But I think your coach is taking the longer view. He might be trying to push your speed now, and move you up later in high school.
