For once I agree with Ventolin (and he didn't call someone a moron or idiot).

5k and 10k go hand in hand, the one who is better at 5k will almost always be better at 10k.
for a 1500-5000 guy spending a few years focusing on the 5000 at the end of his career, this is not even close to true
they year lagat beat bekele at 5000, you think he takes him at 10,000 as well?
rupp, ritz and solinsky are NOT k. bekele.

well no shit sherlock, you are missing the point
just because someone beats someone over 5000, if they approach the race from different backgrounds and different skill sets, does not mean that the same thing will happen over 10000
like bekele, the 3 american guys mentioned are 5000, 10000 (or even marathon) specialists approaching the races from a strength background
lagat is a 1500,5000 guy approaching the races from a speed background
lagat is a superior runner allowing his speed to make him the best 5000 guy of the lot (for now), but he only beats ritz and solinsky by 2 and 1 seconds respectively over 5000 (and I believe Rupp will get to this level soon but you can leave him off if you wish)...
but as he is historically a low mileage guy with a middle distance background, it is impossibly to logically argue that he would hold the same advantage over 10000 against comparable 5000 runners with more strength oriented backgrounds (along with superior upsides)
so while they are not bekele and would not blow him out, I believe 10000 is stretching his range far enough to allow them to beat him in a rabbited race (championship style is another story)
he is an incredible runner and it is perfectly reasonable to believe he is capable of beating them over a distance twice as far as the one he barely beats them at now, but you are going to need more justification than "5000 and 10000 go hand in hand"

so a 40 year old kenyan is breaking all the american records...?
Says the European.
Lagat cannot go under 27. Daniel Komen was much better but could not do it.
We are talking about the 5000 and 10000 meters, not the 5k and 10k.
