Want to know what you get when you lower taxes for everybody without paying for them? You get higher taxes for everybody down the road. I don't think of the Tea Party crowd as being particularly credible on most topics, but I would expect to see a few on this board acknowledge this certainty. Whether Congress preserves half of these tax cuts, or all of them, either way it's a giant budget buster on top of our already considerable budgetary problems. Those against raising the debt limit, or Fed policies that weaken the dollar are dumb as fence-posts if they don't see this as furthering both of those actions. There is no alternative. Any older Americans that value entitlement programs that don't see this legislation as another nail in the coffin for their future benefits are both blind and ignorant. Gobble gobble motherf'ers.
I am not a member of the tea party, but I agree with them on this issue:
Yes, taxes need to be high enough to pay the bills, I did say that already. It goes to the 47% who don't pays any for any of our federal spending. When we spend so much we need to raise taxes, we want to get everything from the rich? What about the 47%? Should they pay something? These entitlement programs you speak of are the problem. They benefit the middle and lower incomes, yet we want to tax only the rich to pay for them? We cannot tax them enough to pay for the things we want, they are not the issue, our spending and desire not to pay for it is.
Again, you tax the rich that 4% and you still have the same problems. It solves nothing.
