Ironic that you can't hold the meet at Portland Meadows (venue where you can gamble on horse racing) while you can hold a third-tier bowl game and the WCC basketball championships in Las Vegas (city/environment where you can gamble on all sorts of things).
NXN has worked well there and I don't know how that gets around the "active horse racing series" prohibition. I just don't understand that issue - is it because on the Monday before Thanksgiving in November there is active betting on horses taking place at Portland Meadows for action elsewhere?
The NCAA apparently accepted a bid from Oregon to host the XC champs in 2011 and then for several months says nothing before finally coming out and saying "no" because of the gambling aspect. Seems to me this would have been an immediate rejection if the site selection committee were even remotely paying attention.
