Race: Chicago
Goal: 2:37-2:38
Had a great week and a solid race today. Feeling good. Dialing into my marathon pace... thinking after today that 2:37-2:38 is doable.
Mon- 8 easy post my big 15 in the middle of 21
Tue- 14/ AM: 9, PM: 5
Wed- 15/ AM: 10, PM: 5
Thur- 10/ 3 up, 3x2k w/ 2:00 rest, 3 cd. Ran 6:58, 6:38, 6:48. Felt OK. It was 90 and humid and wanted to do 4, but just called it a day after 3 cause I was too fast and too hot.
Fri- 15/ AM: 10, PM: 5
Sat- 11
Sun- 8
Weekly Total: 80
Today: 16.5/ 2 up, 20k at 5:43/44 pace, 2 down. Ran 1:11:03 for the 20k. Pissed cause I stopped and stretched for 5 seconds b/w 5 and 6. If it wasn't for that, would have been sub 1:11:00. Oh well. Think (minus the kick) that I could have kept 5:45s for 15? or so today. Aerobically felt really good and legs felt OK... especially after 95 and 80 mile weeks and great workouts. My hip/hammy gave me big problems through 7, but then loosened up for the last 5. Splits were 5:33 (too fast), 5:38, 5:37, 5:37, 5:45, 5:50 (5 seconds stretch break, so 5:45 for running), 5:48, 5:47, 5:42, 5:51 (hill), 5:48, 5:43, 2:19 (5:23 pace).
Had too much left, but happy overall. I wanted 1:11:00 and thought it would take a perfect race to run sub. Turns out it wouldn't have had to be perfect after all. Think without hip/hammy issues, I could have run 1:10 or faster. Very pleased overall. MY official 1/2 PR is 1:18:02, and this is worth a 1:14:56, so not bad.
