Ever hear of 3 time world xc champ Lynn Jennings? Also an Oly medal winner.

I assume you’re not aware that the ‘great’ Pre was also passed by Gammoudi and even a certain Ian Stewart (who) in the same race.
That’s how great he was.
Incidentally, I’ve never heard anyone call Gammoudi, a sea-level athlete, who actually out-kicked altitude-living Keino (who beat Ryun in the 1500) in the 5000 at Mexico - a cowardly little girl.
of course i have point taken but imo if you drop xc and look at 5,000, 10,000 on the track and the marathon as i have for my other picks she is just a bit short of getting on my list as is another american great doris brown heritage

to the prefanclan i say shorter, rodgers, schul, mills& salazar all get the nod over pre on an american list and at 5000 alone guitarmarty ranks ahead of pre in my book.
a tangent thought I tend to look at things in these classes
short sprint->200
long sprints>800
mid distance>2 miles
distance>5000 10000 and races on the road over 10,000m
i think of hh,ims and steeple as skills set races and i view xc races as a stand alone subset of athletics as I do racewalking and roadraces under 15,000m
jumps, throws and multi events seem to be neat classifications in the field and while i go along with convention and list the pv as a jump i am not all that comfortable about getting flung about by a bendy pole as a real jumping skill.
Lots of great women that are being ignored here!
Paula Radcliffe
Sonia O'Sullivan
Fernando Ribeiro
Rosa Mota
Gabriela Szabo
On the mens side:
Paavo Nurmi
Emil Zatopek
Carlos Lopes
Come to think of it - surely only Paula Radcliff’s record has survived the African onslaught.
Indeed, it looks as if it’ll last another decade or so as well.
That must put Paula as one of the top non-African runners of all time.
for men:
1 Solinsky
2 Coe
3 Kennedy
4 Viren
5 Webb
.
.
.
126,783 Karnazes
126,784 Paavo Nurmi
first lap scores
7-zat
4 lopes and clarke
3 viren kuts nurmi
2- barrios peters
the chase pack
i dismiss the prefanclans irrational rants on their face.

Dont forget Sonia O'Sullivans 8:21 over 3k. No African has ever run faster. Granted Dibaba and Defar probably could if they bothered, but they are the only ones ever capable of doing so. The likes of Wami and Tulu tried on many occasions and never managed it. In fact the African record is 8:23 by Edith Masai. Also very few Africans have such an impressive range of PB's that Sonia has:
1500m - 3:58
Mile - 4:17
2000m - 5:25
3000m - 8:21
5000m - 14:41
10000m - 30:47
Half Marathon - 1:07:19
Marathon - 2:29:01
Oh, I see, Karnazes won more than 9 gold medals and three silver?
How many have Solinsky, Webb and Kennedy won?
Have you actually watched the race? Not the way it happened!
After his performance in the Continental Cup Bayron Piedra deserves a nod.

You have Jim Peters, Derek Clayton, and Ron Clarke, but no Bill Rodgers or Frank Shorter, you must be from the UK.
Why Derek Clayton? Always injured, a dubious world marathon record, never won a championship medal and never beat the great Ron Hill.
name a championship race he won?
You guys are going about it all wrong its easy go to the all time list and look.
800m 1:41.73 Sebastian Coe GRB 6th fastest time ever
1500m 3:28.95 Fermin Cacho ESP 30th fastest time ever
mile 3:46.32 Steve Cram GBR 11th fastest time ever
5000m 12:55.53 Chris Solinsky USA106th fastest time ever
10,000m 26:59.60 Chris Solinsky USA 66th fastest time ever
marathon 2:06:05 Ronaldo da Costa BRA 35th fastes time ever
Funny you guys mentioned PRE and Fernandez decent US runners who have no accomplishments out side of the US. Im not a fanboy but honestly Solinsky has a pretty good case for best NON African distance runner ever, although Coe is high on the list in both the 800 and mile so maybe its him.
Coe should be on that list.

You have got to be kidding. How is running a 28:xx 10k anything close to a cowardly little girl? He ran to win and accomplished that mission. By the way, did you know that drafting has very little effect? Everyone was doing the work necessary to run a fast race, Pre just did it his way while the others did it their way. Results don't lie. If pre could have won, he should have. All the speculation in the world isn't going to elevate him as much as he obviously is in your mind.
Of the americans that some of you mention, I have heard something of them, but you must be joking.
Solinsky?
Fernandez?
Rupp?
What have they done? I am sure they are good runners, but... well. Have you heard the word chauvinist?
