What is your basis for that ludicrous statement? Distance running has only been improving since the inception of FL. Providing goals for athletes in a sport that is severely under-recognized to completely ignored in some states is one of the few things to focus on when putting in the grueling mileage.
Go back and look at times in the early-mid 70s and times since that time. You will be suirprised.
I know guys, why don't we actually ORGANIZE THE WHOLE SPORT?
Have ALL the HS State Meets on the SAME WEEKEND. Oh my god, that would be sooo difficult, and what's worse is that it might actually make sense.
Then two weeks later, have ALL the Regional Meets, on the SAME WEEKEND. If your team advances, you advance, if you're team doesn't, but you're a top ten individual then you continue on to nationals.
Then two weeks later, have a REAL LIFE NATIONAL MEET.
OH WAIT, THIS IS TOO COMPLICATED, BECAUSE THE NCAA DOES IT AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY, WE WOULDN'T WANT A GOOD SYSTEM IN PLACE FOR OUR HS KIDS, WHAT A HORRIBLE IDEA.
Instead lets just let all states run rampant, hosting state meets in October and state meets in December and regionals on different weekends and then different races for different corporate sponsors and a white peoples race and a mexican peoples race and seed teams through tournament brackets, but only in the west, in the east we'll go off of rankings and in the midwest we'll use pr's and convert to altitude, but only between 3000ft and 3002 feet, and then we will WONDER WE NO ONE UNDERSTANDS OUR SPORT.
And we need a h.s national championship because why?
we already have one. the least we could do is organize it.

try holding the alaska state meet the same weekend as the florida state meet.
