You need to understand the difference between countries in which individuals dope for particular reasons and countries in which national programs exist for the systematic doping of their athletes and the concealment of that doping. There have been many American sprinters and throwers who have tested positive, but aside from possibly prior to the 1984 Olympics, we have not had a systematic program of doping, and I can recall only Jacobs, Lagat (since cleared) and Slaney among our major distance runners with positives. The Russians have a systematic doping program and a long history of that, as have China and Eastern Europe.

Yes, I could see a pro athlete taking something that common without knowing it was illegal. I know several Olympic athletes who drink coffee before races without knowing what the legal limit is for caffeine, much less how much coffee they would personally have to ingest in order to reach that limit.

(Oh, and n=7 for a 2.1% performance increase tells you almost NOTHING).

Your mindset is the same as a general conspiracy theorists; you give too much credit to the amount of organization possible.

The irony here is I give Alminova about a 25% of being clean simply because of the fact she is from Russia and had that incredible of a performance, but I can't let this bad of a line of reasoning stand.

The US is a country that has athletes that are very good at justifying cheating on the grounds that 'everyone else is'.

I would disagree with that. It's not just that she's Russian and ran a fast time. Much more suspicious is the number of fast times she ran in one week, specifically her 4 flat 24 hours prior, winning the Russian CHAMPIONSHIP race by 4 seconds. The last time I remember an athlete running like this was in the Olympics, when Ramzi absolutely blasted the semifinal, then came back to win Gold. He seemed to have no fear of being tired in the finals...and why would he? He had, after all, the best recovery equipment money could buy (CERA).

This stinks about the same, thus all the well-warranted speculation. But yes, you are right, the fact that she comes from a country with well documented state-funded doping programs in the past does not help her case much.

Do any of you understand the battery of tests WADA conducts on a world best athlete? How can she possibly cheat that? You obviously do not know how often these athletes are tested.

Oh wait, this reasoning only can be applied to American distance runners.

BALCO's was as systematic a doping program as there ever was. But the fact that it wasn't a *national* program makes it somehow less dirty? Absurd. You're grasping at straws with meaningless distinctions like that.
