My long runs are almost always on Sundays. My weeks are structured Monday to Sunday. I started making sure that I got in at least a 10 miler every Sunday starting in my early twenties and that made all of the difference in my development. These days it's typically more like 12 to 15, unless I'm training for a marathon and I'll go as far as 21 or 22.
I do enjoy the social aspect of the long run, but that's a bit of a problem as I typically run my long runs a little faster than most folks that I train with. I always try to at least end up averaging sub 7 pace. I'm one of those weird people that need other people around me to slow me down as I always end up running too hard by myself.
I cut yesterday's run short due to Super Bowl festivities and only ran 10 in about 68:20.
A mediocre week for me, only 36 miles in 5 days with a solid fartlek on Tuesday and a decent 8 mile progression run on the treadmill on Friday.
Headed to Spokane to run in the XC Championships next weekend. No idea what kind of shape I'm in. I think that I'll be content to break 29 for 8K and thrilled to break 28.
