Words that make you sound intelligent

Let me be clear.....

Don't add words, work on removing them. Most people think they sound smarter by sounding wordy. Work on removing all the words that you can. Be simple and direct. The object is to get the point across, not sound a certain way.

Take your own advice, my friend. How about:

Do not be overly wordy in your communications, instead aim to keep them simple and on target.

it is not the words, but rather the order of words that allow one to "sound" intelligent.

don't get me started with disirregardless...i heard someone say this once, i corrected him by saying don't you mean irregardless. he said yes yes irregardless. i chuckled, then cried a little bit. but hey, no one is perfect.

the simple truth: Take your own advice, my friend. How about:

Do not be overly wordy in your communications, instead aim to keep them simple and on target.

That's still pretty verbose. How about:

Communicate simply and directly.

or

Keep it short and sweet.

Using words like please and thank you is a sign of intelligence IMHO

Agree. Abbreviating for chat rooms and texting is killing grammar in schools. Some of my nieces and nephews can not spell when I receive emails from them.

This reminds me of the time I read that Dane-o's blog. Puffed with huge reaches for glossary terms and nauseatingly self-centered.

I've found animal references to entail a certain level of intelligence (not saying to what level.)

Ok, so maybe the last one was a vestige of my youthful nature but, someone tell me that these tools wouldn’t make anyone sound profoundly intelligent.
