That's what I was saying, historically the program (in the last decade or so) has had that problem, but you're correct that Gondak has been doing a better job (which was also what I was trying to imply).
Either way, awesome to see Lincoln running well, for sure.

We are talking about 2 things here. First is the 4x800. These three guys are 3/4 of that 4x800 team. I think discussing their ability to pull it together at the end of the year is extremely relavent to the conversation.Next is the DMR. I agree with the comments made that Penn State does not quite have the firepower to contend for an NCAA title. They will have a good team. But by no means a Top 3 in the NCAA type of team. But again, this is not due to them falling apart at the end of a season. They just don't have that mile leg at this point.

How are we wrong? You stated that PSU has a history of peaking early. We showed you how the three 800 runners that ran great early season races, in fact, have a record of peaking well at Big Tens, Regionals, and Nationals. When you stated that those are only 3 runners on the team (despite them being 3/4 of last year's Penn Relays 4x800), you pointed to Matt Lincoln as history that Penn State runners peak too early. You mentioned that he ran a 4:01 1600 leg (may be true, but you haven't stated where/when this was) his senior year indoors and then could not break 4:00 in the 1500 outdoors. We have showed you how he has run well at Big Tens, Regionals, and Canadian Nationals in 2005 (senior year) and 2006 (5th year).

Just some food for thought...
Penn State qualified for Nationals in Fall 2008 in XC...This year they were horrendous...granted they graduated quite a few 5th year guys, however the squad they had in place definitely underperformed this fall.
PSU Distance Running is a long way from the Greg Fredericks era...but they've got some talented young guns who could turn things around in the next few years...
Does Beth coach the men's XC team, or is that Gondak as well?? I guess I'm still a bit confused about their coaching setup...

Gondak = 800 coach.
Beth = all else.
Me think's Gondak has earned more authority than he currently enjoys.
Gondak should get a job more than being one event and doing all the recruiting for all the other events.
Definitely sounds like the right idea...Beth's girls have done fairly well, and as a whole program they are extremely competitive...The guys on the other hand have struggled...Gondak's mid-d crew is definitely a bright spot, but it appears to me that PSU Men's Distance squad could benefit from a new set of ideas...something isn't gelling. They've got talent...and as the only big-time school in PA (with phenomenal facilities) they shouldnt have too tough a time recruiting both in and out of state...

I think that poster probably meant in terms of overall facilities and such. Or perhaps he did just discount Nova accidentally.
And to the other poster, I'm pretty sure Lincoln ran 4:01 in the DMR leg at Sykes-Sabock that year.
