I do not think it's natural for a runner (or any hobby jogger) to run every day for 100 straight days. If training really is stress + adaptation, then it has to involve much more than merely putting in the miles. It must be done in the context of recovery - a full eight hours sleep the night before, no lingering aches and pains, etc... And this set of circumstances is NEVER going to happen every single day for 100 straight days, especially when you've got to pay the bills or make the grades, raise the kids, do the dishes and laundry, have a little fun. The only way I could run every day for 100 straight days is if I, on many occasions, just forced myself out the door in the morning come hell or high water. That means when I only got six hours of sleep, tough crap - I'm putting in an hour before going to work. How the hell is that good for a runner?
Plus, it would surely take a toll on my sex life.
Excellent, and funny. And there is some truth in this. But, obviously the comparison is a bit apples and oranges, no?
If you only ran 50 out of 100 days, you would not be as good (all other things being equal) as the guy who runs 100 straight days.
But the guy who has sex for 100 straight days is not necessarily better at it than the guy who does it 40 days, or 30 days, or even 20 days. In fact, the 100 day guy could actually be much worse at it.
