NO high school kid can break 4? What's the record again? Oh yeah 3:53.
Seriously tho freshman times don't mean a thing. I ran a 5:08 mile as a freshman and an 11:00 2 mile, and an 18:45 5k. By the time I graduated I ran a 4:17, 9:12 3200m, and a 15:20 5k. Now I run for one of the most competitive Schools in the Nation for Cross Country and Track and my times and improved greatly since high school. If you can run a solid time, anywhere under 5:20, and make sure you keep improving because you want it, then you can do very well for yourself.
Here was my progression,
5:08, 11:00, 18:45
4:38, 10:35, 17:02
4:20, 10:02, 16:30
4:17, 9:12, 15:20.
Don't say you can't be state champ cuz you might improve a lot, you never know, and don't be so concerned about the exact training you do right now. As a high school freshman just run some decent number of miles, do some speed work, and race hard to see the times drop
