YEAH YEAH YEAH!
"Does anyone else believe North Central can score less then 32 points? I believe if there is going to be any year for them to do it.... its this year"
I don't know that this record will ever fall. That is ridiculously difficult to do as evidenced by several awesome teams the past few years...NCC this year, Cortland last year, and Calvin in 2006. Those teams all went for it and fell short. Number one reason why I don't believe it will happen is the bigger field. In 2006 they increased the number of teams fielded at Nationals by 8...thus some runners who would normally be only individuals and not score now score and become that difference maker...even if the record COULD have been broken.
The following is the old way teams were selected.
"Twenty-four teams of 7 men each were selected to participate in the championships. The top teams from each of the 8 regions automatically qualified. Additional at-large berths (16) were awarded based on the following formula: The regions with the first 16 finishers in the previous year's championships were awarded the additional berths. No region can receive more than 5 berths."
Now the top two teams in each region are selected with a total of 32 teams making it. This adds EIGHT teams.
I checked Calvin's results in 2006 and I believe they still would have scored 37 points...I was wondering because Oskhosh was ranked poorly going in and Willy Kaul displaced four Calvin runners by himself. And W-Plattesville's Sigl displaced three I believe and that team finished 20 something place. But both of those teams would have made it either way teams were selected.
However, this year's NCC team was affected fairly drastically.
1 Cortland State ATLANTIC
2 North Central MIDWEST
3 Williams NEW ENGLAND
4 Wis -Stevens Point MIDWEST
5 Calvin GREAT LAKES
6 Wis -La Crosse MIDWEST
7 Trinity (Conn ) NEW ENGLAND
8 Geneseo State ATLANTIC
9 Wis -Oshkosh MIDWEST
10 Allegheny MIDEAST
11 Ohio Northern GREAT LAKES
12 Nyu ATLANTIC
13 Carnegie Mellon MIDEAST
14 Dickinson MIDEAST
15 St. Olaf CENTRAL
16 Haverford MIDEAST
ATLANTIC 4 -St. Lawrence would not have raced as a team (4pts).
MIDWEST 5
NEW ENGLAND 3 -Brandeis would not have raced as a team (3pts.).
SOUTH 1 -Lynchburg would not have raced as a team (5pts.).
GREAT LAKES 3
MIDEAST 5
WEST 1 -Colorado College would not have raced as a team (2pts.).
CENTRAL 2
Meaning if the old way would have been used to select teams, NCC would have scored 36 points this year.

I agree with your hypothesis but why is Trinity the 7th team in that list? They did not go to Nationals this year.
what happened to peter kosgei?
just found this on the internet:
"In case someone hasn't already posted this, Peter Kosgei ran with the flu and was really hurting at the end of the race. From Hamilton coach Brett Hull:
"Peter has the heart of a champion and chose to run and defend his title where many would have not run at all. I can assure you he did not give up. He stated that with about a half mile to go his legs just would not go any faster and his head was pounding. He spent the next 45 minutes in the medical tent with the doctor for he was too weak to stand. While we would have loved for him to pull it off, we are proud of his efforts and he will come back from this stronger than before. Also, Ricky Flynn ran a great race and earned the win."
