There were multiple reasons Brian Schrader chose Oregon.
1. Academics
2. New environment
3. Pac 10
4. Chance to get back to Arizona for competition
5. Grandparents close to Eugene
6. Comfortable rappor (sp) with Vin & Andy
7. AJ
8. Did I mention academics
Question - why can't Flagstaff produce better "home grown" products?????

Which Nike model do you like, so he can wear those the next 4 years just for you? InChapelHill and Teddy, thanks for the support. Dhtd, who is already claiming Brian to be a future elite? He is just a hard working kid who wants to contribute to Oregon's already successful program. Tiddlywinks and xcrunner5, academics was a huge part of Brian's decision, but not the only part. Oregon's academics are fine, and like others have said, you get out of your education what you put into it. No one tried to convince us OU was in the Ivy League. He had several great programs to make a tough choice over, but was the most comfortable and at home with the Ducks. And1, thanks for directing your question towards his parents. Well, you did get another good runner from Arizona (Tucson area) Steve Magnuson. Probably second best runner in AZ, although both Schrader and Magnuson won their repective divisions and Schrader had a better time. Schrader ran earlier in the eday and that means a lot in Phoenix. Many runners DNF due to the heat. I think they are both going to Footlocker (or is it NXN?)

I have no problem with someone saying that academics didn't really factor into the equation or was only a part of his decision, but to say that they were a "huge" part and then pick Oregon just doesn't make sense. Clearly, running and team fit were a huge part of his decision and academics were a secondary concern.
Also, to address the comment that the academics of a school is what you make of it, that is only true to an extent.
