I finished technically. After months of training though I was to stubborn to adjust for the weather. I refused slow my pace until conditions slowed it for me. The end was a death crawl in every sense of the term. Ironically, today it is mid 50's outside and 50% humidity. Just my luck.
Where is the rest of the Philly crew???
Goal <2:55
In my taper and still looking for that "I feel great" epiphany. Nothing wrong, just feeling like I'm in no-man's land.
Mon - off
Tues - 8.5 just under 7/mile plus 8x100
Wed - 5 very easy
Thurs - 9 total (4 mi progressive warmup - 8min down to MP followed by 3xmile 5:36,:46,:38 2 min rec.) 1.5 cool down.
Fri - 5 very easy
Sat - 7 @ 7/mile plus 10x100 Felt sluggish, I think from the miles on thurs.
Sun - 14 Started easy and barely worked up to moderate for the middle of the run. Finished w/ 6:42/6:08 feeling good.
50 for the week. Looks like we should have good weather. Certainly nothing like the "Ice stops" that we had last year.
God I'm fat!
This just in,I just recieved my e-mail confirmation letter. Boston 2010 is official!

Somehow I doubt that, but whatever you say.
Nice Pablo. As of last night I hadn't received official word yet... I wonder if an e-mail is waiting for me when I get home.
Ran 6 miles today. God I felt awful. How long after starting up again should I expect to feel normal? Legs were really heavy and it just took a lot of effort to run those 6 miles.

Then it was 8 degrees and windy this morning, so I bagged again. I'll do 8-9 easy this afternoon/early evening when it's a bit warmer and melted.
Should have waited longer. Hit a patch of black ice and now I look like Rocky Balboa. Kept all my teeth and I don't THINK I broke anything, though my elbow is sore as heck. It would be funny if I didn't have an interview on Wednesday.
Oh, and I still managed to bring it in at 6:25 pace for the last 2 miles on the ice and snow.
Philadelphia
Did around 43 last week with a medium long run of 13 yesterday. Felt pretty good. My main worry is that a couple of bad weeks 3-5 weeks out from marathon (busy at work, lazy/tired etc.) may slow my pace. I'm a first timer so I don't really know what to expect but the plan is to go out at 6:40 pace and aim for 2:55. If it feels at all like it's a bad idea I'll drop down further.
Now to figure out exactly how to eat/prepare the night before and morning of!
Bib number 233 for any other guys in the same goal time range. Good luck!
If bib numbers were times we'd be 9 seconds apart (224). It's my second Philly and 5th overall.
Our goals/plans are pretty darn similar, except that I'm hoping that by pacing smarter (ie staying at 6:40 instead of feeling good running 6:25-30 too early) I'll be able to have a strong last 6.2 for once.
I'll look for you.
Managed only three runs, for ~ 15 miles total, followed by several days of high altitude de-training. :-) Was working at ~ 13-14000 feet Wednesday to Sunday and couldn't run. First run since last Tuesday morning will be later today with the lovely Mrs Pete.
We'll be in Philly this weekend. My wife is aiming to BQ (dammit!). I'm planning to see how this specific training experiment will end, haha.
Better late than never:
Boston 2010
Goal: Sub 2:40
Monday: 10K easy
Tuesday: 10K moderate pace (6:20s-ish)
Wednesday: 20mi (avg 7min pace with last 4mi in 6:00s)
Thursday: 10mi easy on grass
Friday: 5mi (5:55s)
Saturday: 10mi (6:30s)
Sunday: 18mi (progression 7:15s to 6:35s)-this one sucked
75mi total
Busy schedule limited my time this week, hence the 5min quick on Friday (only had 1h free). But still hit my high for weekly mileage. Did a race the weekend before with no long run so I added 2 long runs to this week and no other workouts.
This is the first time that I've been ready to start training for a marathon on schedule. In the past, injuries have limited my training to about 3months. I'm doing a mileage buildup now(albeit, slightly more intense than usual because of fall racing) and I will start the Pfitzinger 18/85 in December.
2TM, Its been over 5 weeks since Chicago and I still don't feel normal on my runs. Hopefully you recover quicker.
Thanks, Another. Felt OK today (still sluggish, but not as bad as yesterday). Could be because of the 5:30 AM wakeup too. More importantly, my stubborn hip/hammy/prirformis issue is back with a vengeance. Hamstring was very sore throughout and I lost partial control of my right leg with 2 miles to go of my 6 mile run. The good thing is I know I can run through it (for the most part) and as long as I keep stretching and strengthening, it will become manageable.
After time off, its the worst, so hopefully after a few weeks of running every day, it will loosen up and cooperate.
Boston Bound. Similar goal and similar race. Nice mileage this far out. How high are you planning on getting?
Race: ??
Goal: ??
M - 11.5 moderate
T - 6 easy
W - 12.5 with middle 8.5 at 5:45 pace
R - 8.5 moderate
F - 9 easy
Sa - 10 moderate
Su - 12.5 moderate
Total: 70 miles
I don't really have any immediate goals right now. I'm basically still just building back up after my post-Chicago down time. I'm actually feeling very good. All of my runs seem to be pretty quick unintentionally. I have yet to do a structured workout, but basically if I feel good one day, I just let myself go whatever pace feels comfortable. Sometimes that ends up being pretty quick, like on Wednesday. I will be doing a low-key 4 mile race on Thanksgiving, and then I'll be racing USATF Club Nationals in December. Other than that, there are no real goals on the horizon just yet. I'll be meeting with my new coach soon to sit down and map out a race schedule for the next year or so. Until then, I'm just running and enjoying it.
2TM. Good luck with the PF. I had a herniated disc several years ago with similarly associated hip/hamspring problems. Still bothers me if I don't stretch.
75mpw is new territory for me so I'm not sure I'm going to go much higher. I'm hoping to peak around 85, but I'm just going on feel. I ran my previous 3 marathons on about 60-65mpw because of my history of back problems. Sub-2:40 might be ambitious. I've run 2:40 on an easier course, but right now I can't imagine running the last 14mi of a 20mi training run in MP (ask Pfitz has me doing by March). I'm aiming for 6min pace (2:37) just to make all the math easier, haha. But I'd be happy with sub 2:40. So pretty much like you I'm guessing. I just need to find a way to avoid tanking in the last 5mi. Hopefully the bump in mileage will help.

wo2) 6x800m w/ 1 min rest @ 2:29 avg
Legs are finally starting to feel the taper just today finally. Besides that - there's been a lot of headaches, bloating, and poor sleep from running less and eating more. LETS GET TO SUNDAY ALREADY!!!!
BTW, anybody doing philly - go to this thread NOW for important finish information:
I think there are issues along the course (ie construction, re-paving etc.) that are causing last minute scrambles.
I would say don't be surprised if there are changes by the time the race starts. Hopefully by expo time they will have it sorted out and can provide good final information.
