That's a bit of a pisser, I was planning on getting a qualifier at Honolulu next month. Guess I get the winter off.

I am so Fckn Pissed, my Bro and I were registered to do the Boston2Big Sur Double for our 50th Birthday week. It was a bad idea to begin with, and moving it back to our 60th birthday would seem to be a bigger mistake.
In the day, we use to hold off on registering until we got faster times in Jan, Feb and even March to secure a better start. Damn Blue Blazers, Damn them....
This really sucks. It seems we are going to have to register 10 months in advance like Chicago from now on.
The sport is being taken over by duck butted women running 4 hour marathons.
They still describe themselves as "the world's oldest and most prestigious annual marathon" - I think anyone who has seen the changes in this marathon over the past several years knows that this is no longer true. It's a shame, but in the end it's a business above all else, I suppose.
You must be really stupid. Then again, most hobbyjoggers aren't exactly savvy racers.

Should put on a Lets Run marathon on the Boston course starting 2 hours earlier for all of us who were trying to get in with late qualifiers. We could see how many hours faster the average Lets Run time is compared to the total Boston Marathon average.
On the other hand, I'm not training all winter for a Lets Run marathon.

Yeah, can you imagine how incredibly cheap and amateurish the race organization would be?
nobody would actually run the marathon...they'd debate Obama VS Bush policies, how handsome Rupp is, if every African is on drugs, Benoit Z was framed, Cox is not that fast, nor that good looking, and if Fernandez is the real deal or going the way of Webb???

Or you could do this...
From one man's description: "It’s called the Don’t-Run-Boston 50K, a moniker that seems to symbolize a certain snootiness toward the traditional roadrunners who aspire to such weird goals like running the Boston marathon."
Here is the actual group that puts it on..http://www.trailanimals.com/index.php/?p=208&cpage=1#comment-39
Go figure, Dane-o felt the need to tell the world his myopic, ignorant views on this.

You are a tool.
There is nothing wrong with that article.
Just because his opinion differs from the runnersworld up with the waddlers movement doesn't make him ignorant.
He asks a legitimate question a lot of us would like to get an answer on.

It's all about the $ now and the dozen or so elite runners they invite to at least make it exciting.
what are considered the BIG marathons?
Chicago, NYC, Boston- US any others?
London, Berlin?...others International?

You obviously haven't run Big Sur yet.

Are you required to qualify to get in to Big Sur? Is Big Sur considered the biggest and most famous marathon in the world? Do tens of thousands from Eurpoe and Asia fly to America to run Big Sur? Is Big Sur on national T.V.? Was Big Sur ever on the Wide World of Sports? Does Big Sur get the best runners in the world?
NO.

Serpico - What does any of your questions / factors have to do with how tough the course is?
NOTHING
PWWWWWWWNED
It's time to tighten the Boston qualifying standards. Lowering each age group by 10 minutes should do the trick. The race would still fill up, but the overall quality of the field would improve. And you wouldn't have to commit 6 months in advance.
For anyone interested, there is a marathon taking place in Rhode Island, one week before Boston. Stricter qualifying standards, and qualifying is the only way to get it. For more information:
Thanks, but who the f*** wants to go to Rhode Island?
I mentioned this on the other post "ATTENTION BAA". Boston qualifing times can be used for 18months. So those people who run a fast marathon this winter can use the time for Boston 2011. So yes, people are closed out for 2010, but they already have a time for 2011 and can register for Boston the day it opens next year.

Is Big Sur one of the most beautiful courses on earth? Yes.
