ok, so we all new wangel blew, everyone knew from the start. whatever he did this time, hopefully it will come out soon.
but in the meantime, any thoughts (besides turk/mcraven) on who could take over and finally move this program in the right direction?
What about Louie Quintana being reunited with current women's cross country coach; he is ready to be a head coach.
What about Kevin Sullivan? He was around the men's program while his wife, I mean I, coached the ladies program. He knows the campus, the area. He might want to step out of his wife's, I mean my, coaching shadow.

kevin would be good, but they need someone that would be a really agressive recruiter.
What about Randall Ballard? The guy loves Illinois. He's been around runners for a long time now and is very good at keeping athletes injury free.
I also like the Sully idea, another guy who knows his way around Champaign.
Yes we all know Wayne was a bad replacement for Gary but just look at all the great coaches they ignored with the last interview process. How about Bucky who is now at U of A this guy didn't even get a sniff when he was there interviewing but we all know why. Maybe they can find a new staff that can recruit and coach instead of pretending they have a clue. I have to say Turk and wendall are not the answer. But then again do they really care about the program?
Wayne was not a good recruiter at all. I can honestly say he spent thousands of dollars on trying to recruit athletes that had no way of getting in to U of I. Grades do help. There was countless money spent on trips with plane tickets that athletes didn't even travel. Combine the program get with the up to date trends on how a great program should be ran.

There new interim head coach, Mike Turk, is an Augustana College grad. Go Augie!
turk cares more about the program than angel ever did and cares about the all the athletes not just the 1's that angel bought from africa or jamaica, that alone makes him miles ahead of angel
I agree, turk may not be a great coach, but he is a really good person. Cant say that at all for angel.
Mike Turk is an excellent coach, and had much success prior to coming to Illinois. Unfortunately, when you have to suffer fools, it is very difficult to be successful.
As for a replacement, the obvious choice seems to be Bob Olesen. Since it is highly unlikely that Jerry Clayton will consider coming back, Bob should be the head guy. He has produced as a head coach in a big way, grew up in Illinois and was an outstanding triple jumper for the Illini, and was a member of the team during their run in the late 80's when Wieneke led teams won six Big Ten titles in a row. He knows how to win, has won, and will win should Ron Guenther have enough sense to hire him. On top of it all, he is great guy.

Is this the Elbert Turner who is good friends with Olesen posting?
Ron Garner would be the best fit. He recruited some of the best talent the Illini have ever had when he was there with Winkler. He CAN coach men as well!
