Goucher beats Chad Ware into 2nd - Ware ran 2.20 this year - Is Goucher in that shape?

What do you want to know? My 8k XC best at Butler was a 26:36, I ran 15:25(i) for my best 5k there, and 31:57 for the 10k.

I have improved quite a bit in the last couple years (14:45 5k, 30:41 10k, 1:08:24 half, 2:20:56 marathon) thanks to good coaching by Tony Houchin, lots of 120-130 mile weeks, and staying injury free. I thank God for blessing me with all of those things. I still hope to improve much more, but a trials qualifier shot in October (at the Chicago Marathon) is the next goal.

Chad - as a masters runner I want you to know how inspiring your comments are. Even 40 years into the sport I still get gassed by people like you and Kara. It's a great time to be a runner. All the best to ya.

Oops, missed this one. I don't peak for anything but the marathon because what would a 29:59 10k or a 2:07 half do for me over a 2:18:59 marathon? I have been successful with long periods of high mileage, so I did not want to interrupt that just so I could run a 1:07:30 at a race where there isn't any prize money. I am doing the work for my fall marathon right now. If you want to look at my log on flotrack:

it should be public (although you may need to have a registered page, I don't know how that works).

I also am hoping to run for the Army's World Class Athlete Program (WCAP) after I get my Masters of Divinity and fulfill the rest of the requirements for Army chaplaincy. I am a 1st Lieutenant Chaplain Candidate and I am in seminary at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. I need a trials qualifier to qualify for the WCAP program. And if that's not enough about my personal life, I am getting married in 3 days (kinda excited about that)! Now you know more than you ever wanted to know about a non-elite runner. We traded somes messages on Facebook a while back about CHBOLC and Chaplain Candidacy. I'm doing a 30 day practicum at Ft. Riley right now and most people seem to be blown away by the fact that a chaplain to be ran 10 something for 2 miles and was second in an on post 10 mile race in 59:05. I can't even imagine the type of awe soldiers are going to have for you once you get on post somewhere.

I ran in the same race as Goucher and Ware and I can tell you conditions were near optimal. Race start in the low to mid 60s, low humidity, barely any wind to speak of particularly in the final 5 miles where there can be a significant head wind. We'll see how she does in Berlin but she looked very strong. And low 60s in Chicago for August is unheard of.

Talking of Goucher- whats her old man up to nowadays?

FWIW, my husband ran around 30:40/1:08+ before his 2:18+ marathon. He was 100% trained for the marathon.

goucher was at the race on sunday and appears to be in good shape. there are rumors of a marathon debut for him. i can't imagine he would be training under anyone else but al sal.

Adam is traveling to Switzerland with Kara and Alberto, presumably to train, but I'm sure he'll also root for his wife (and maybe other Salazar athletes) while he's there.

I'm drunk so i'm not going to read all the other post but in response to the OP. I hope he's in that kind of shape. I'd like to think someone of his caliber could run that. I feel like i could run that with one year of solid marathon specific training without having to work.

Good job, Chad!

Chad, very interesting reading about your exploits and especially your PRs and mileage. When I was in grad school back in 1979 I was coming off a senior track season with PRs of 14:46 and 30:28, so about on par with yours. I trained for the Marine Corps Marathon and was consistently in the 90 - 105 mile range. I was typically on the track twice a week and did stamina one day and speed the other. I liked 20-milers two out of three weeks with a race the other week. This produced a 2:22:34. I was pretty big for a runner at 6' 1 1/2" and 167 pounds. Also, this was prior to current nutrition knowledge. I ate nothing that morning and drank only water during the race. There were no Gatorade stations or gels. Was on 2:19 pace for 22 miles, probably needed some calories, so I look at you as a 'parallel runner' to me. It's cool seeing how you are doing. Keep at it and you may have another 5 - 8 minutes faster to go. You will need to work on your speed so that your 5k is faster and you run more efficiently at faster paces.
