Let's not go overboard here. It was a 20 second PR for Amy, and Shalane deserves credit for many of those seconds, by running with Amy and sharing the pacing duties in this race. I'm pretty sure Shalane could have gone out there and run 20 seconds faster and probably broken Amy along the way.
Don't worry Shalane, you have lots of fans out there who understand the sport and respect you for helping a fellow American distance runner take it to the next level.
Yeah, Shalane ran the race to pace Amy to a pr and national championship. What are you smoking?
Goodbye Cook, goodbye success. But maybe the new coach is better with feelgood encouragement.
Go Garnett, great job so far!
Is this the gal from northern indiana?

Gloat away man, you earned it if you predicted that. My own predictions look incredibly dismal after day 1 (Gay, Flanagan, Clay...)
Why would anyone pick Gay?
That would be the one. She's from Kendallville, IN, just north of Fort Wayne.
As a friend and supporter of Amy's, I would just like to say how happy watching that race made me. Amy went through some tough times, but she stuck with it and now she's an Olympian and US champion. Great work, Amy. Keep rolling.
I remember reading her blog from runinsight.com..where she was talking about riding bicycles and 50 mile weeks and all that..
I'll bet it's different now!
Begley and Flanagan both alternated the leads throughout the race..

What are YOU smoking? I didn't say Shalane was purposely pacing Amy, but that's how it turned out. Shalane was running to make sure she made the team. She teamed with Amy to push the pace just fast enough to eliminate the possibility of a late kick from someone else in the field. Both their post race interviews confirmed that they spoke before the race about sharing the lead.
I think Shalane might have slightly underestimated Amy's finishing ability as well as overestimated her own current fitness. But let's not forget that Shalane ran a minute off her PR from last year.
The next couple of months will say a lot about the wisdom of her coaching change.
She looked much thinner last yr. at trials than she did last night.
Begley looked like she has lost wt. since last yr.
I can't believe how BIG Amy is. Now I'm certainly not cutting her down or calling her fat, but she looks really big for a lady elite. Maybe it's just the pics I saw, but man I swear if she'd lose 10# she'd be another 30 secs faster. I guess it seems to work for her the way it is.

Believe it or not, they agreed to share the lead until the last couple of laps. Shalane does share a lot of credit for helping Amy along, but probably did not expect to get second.

She looks big for a distance runner for sure. Like Bolt looks big. If you can move that well at that size, it's too your great advantage, IMO. She looks incredibly healthy and powerful. The last thing she needs to worry about is getting fat.

I liked how Rojo or whoever kept saying Shalane's gonna win this one, lets see who else makes it to the team.
He actually seemed to be calling her Shalene.

Clay gets me a big goose egg too, but everyone with half a brain made that pick and it won't make a difference.
I was 35th overall before the meet began. This morning I asked my wife how we should spend the $2000 gift card.
To be honest, I wrote in my blog that I didn't actually think Begley was going to win, but I thought she was second at worst and Flanagan's recent inconsistency made me jumpy. She just hasn't run this year like she did in the last two.
For the most part, I'm picking favorites to win. Where I'm going out on a limb is Vessey in the 800, Willard in the 1500, Michelle Perry in the 100H, and Jeremy Scott in the PV.
In her interview on flotrack she said she's never been to Europe about ten times.
In her blog she mentions being in Glasgow, Scotland for a race in January this year.

Is she dumb? Or do Americans just not know that Britain is in Europe?

She looks like she's on 'roids.
Britain is an island -- so geographically it is not part of the continent of Europe. Politically/culturally, that's another matter. But as a matter of geography, if you've been to Britain, you technically haven't been to Europe.

Seems an odd thing for her to say. Would she say if she'd been to Japan that she'd never been to Asia? Seems very forgetful, or perhaps just dumb. Good runner however.
