I would be surprised if he runs a quick time-trial 10k in Europe this summer. If he does maybe after Berlin (are there still opportunities after Berlin?). I would guess he could get the AR but not quite sub 27. I'd love to be wrong.

A little sensitive? Rupp is just coming into form, he ran a 54 to his 3:39, and you kidding yourself if you think Rupp couldn't substantially lower his 5000m time. Rupp could beat Tegenkamp's bests for 1500m, 3000m, 5000m this Summer if he takes an honest stab at any and his main event is the 10000m!
Oh I see. He is in CONSIDERABLY in better shape than Teg because he can run faster but just has never done so yet. That makes sense. I didn't know you were speaking Oregonese.

It's funny, I just recently started reading the t&fnews message boards and was reading on rupp. Not only do the posters there seem much more mature, respectful and knowledgable, but they generally think along the lines of Goober on Rupp. As someone else mentioned, Rupp right now just has "it". Anyone who has been around and has really observed the greats (and propably was a very good runner themselves but this isn't required) knows when they see "it" in a runner. Rupps times will come and they will come big and bold, and you'll remember that you tried to argue against it. Maybe you'll remember all those who tried to argue that "rupp can't win" and "rupp has no kick" and "rupp will never get under 4:00" and an old one that "rupp can't break his jr 5K mark". This kid seems to be made to prove doubters wrong.

Oh here we go with the "knowledgable" crap. When a Rupp lover gets backed up against a wall they utter either one of two things:

I'm sure we can all agree that Rupp is ready to run fast this summer. Whether he'll get in the right race is another question. To get an idea of what could unfold however, witness what happened to Chris Solinksy after he graduated. He ran huge PRs of 1312 and 736. The same could be the case for Rupp.
I think its a little too early to be talking sub 27. Until Rupp can prove that his increased fitness will transfer well to the 10k, the AR seems more reasonable. And to those that claimed Rupp would be behind 30 Africans if he went sub 27, you're wrong. Just look at the times from 2008 (which 10000 so graciously posted in each Rupp thread). Only 4 or 5 guys, including Bekele, went sub 27 in 2008. (Admittedly, this may have had something to do with the fact that it was an Olympic year)

We all know Rupp has yet to be really pushed in a time trial 10k, He was 10 seconds off his PR from the year prior last year in the trials 10k, much more tactical. He's beaten a 27:28 fresh.
He's 20 seconds faster in the 10 than his PR. Likely even better than that. His 5k, reasonably is under 13:10. If he gets a fast rabbited race, low 13.
We could be looking at a Sub 27, Sub 13 this year from Rupp, although it will be difficult. His times will surprise everyone.
Since you don't specify a distance at which you believe Rupp will break 27, you undoubtedly right. He's already broken 27 in quite a few times in races of various distances.

They may be stuffy on T&FN, but they're generally just as ignorant and prone to runaway homerism. Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back, stiff.
If the stars align for him I think sub 27 is actually possible for him this year, although my betting $ are on next year. I'll stick my neck out right now and say he'll never ever go sub 13. Thats tougher, and Rupps style just seems more a 10K/marathoner to me.

If he was being paced, all the way, outdoors in good conditions...Sub 13 is very possible. Certainly faster than Teg.

No it's like being in a room of accomplished runners (peers for some of us) and talking track and being with people who "have never been there" talking track. I think most of the knowledgeable types don't bother posting here anymore and are just coming to see if there is anything interesting and then leaving. If you don't know what I mean it won't surprise me.
