As far as I know, tv stations and sponsors have put pressure on the organizers to start the race at that ridiculous time. Don't know what they were thinking.

When was the last time Geb raced Tergat?......I think it was in London marathon in 2007 and tergat beat him and Geb DNF.......the previous year he finished 10th.
So i know what tergat would say......he will say since the london marathon in 2007,Geb made a decision never to be in a race with anyone that can challenge him.Except he was caught unawares by Kitwara's inclusion in Den Hag half marathon this year,who went on to beat him.
It would be silly for geb and wanjiru to run in the same race when they could get a windfall at whatever future marathon they choose to be the advertised record breaking attempt by themselves. Besides Haile must be closing in on 50 years old so the old man gets dibs on the berlin marathon until he sputters out. Wanjiru won't be at his peak for another few years so no point in either of them taking a smaller paycheck at the same event just to appease everyone wanting to see a clash of the titans. You guys make no sense, as if you would take a cut in your paycheck earning your living just because some bozo outside wants you to.

It's amazing how even when Wanjiru apparently backs out of Berlin, with Geb already in the race, that Wanjiru still isn't ducking Geb. That's a neat trick.
I also find it surprising how rare it is for anyone on this message board to value WR's more than winning championships. It's obvious that Geb loves to set WR's, and usually the the championship marathons don't present good opportunities for this, so I'm never surprised to see him skip a championship. I can appreciate a gold medalist, but when you set a WR, it seems much more significant to me. I can't remember who won golds around the time that Khannouchi or Radcliffe set their records. It's funny how people use time trialist as a derogatory term, like it's easier to run a WR than win a race.
