It was not the "last great meet" on the year in the U.S. It actually wasn't that great of a meet. Reebok/NYC and Prefontaine will be better

It's one of those guys who's constantly going on about how many Olympians are from southern California, usually followed by a crack about how Oregon didn't have any medalists. I couldn't care less, but somehow these guys (or just guy) thinks that people haven't heard it before.

Similar to the guy on the political threads who constantly weighs in with "Israel blah blah Nazi Warsaw ghettos blah blah apartheid". Freaking morons.

I agree that the other meets will be better (NYC, Pre). Regardless of the screw ups at Carson, it was good to see the meet covered on TV live.

Oh yeah ? There must have been medals won by UO athletes in Beijing. How many medals ?

I've never understood why announcing seems to be so difficult for so many. Any simpleton can do a little bit of homework before the meet and at least bring himself up to date on the important stuff and be able to talk about it while the race progresses. And even if the announcers are too lazy to educate themselves about what they are announcing, how about at least pretend to be somewhat interested or even excited about whats happening. Its just pathetic. I quit watching, its way too aggravating.

Ah just lay off of Larry Rawson. He just got finished with his shift at Jiffy Lube, cleaned up, and flew in to announce the meet. Doug Logan picked him up at LAX and Larry gave him one Free Wednesday Oil Change coupon for it. Just one though. T&F doesn't have any full time announcers. Only real pro sports can afford that. Adidas was the top meet this year. I was very impressed, rocked, with the field that was assembled. Name another meet that will have the quantity of IAAF Outdoor and Olympic Gold Medalists on live TV this year from the USA ?

That's my point: I don't care. I don't track how many medals were won by people living in each region of the country. In fact, I would hazard a guess that very few people care. I am completely willing to admit that Southern California is the home of more medal winners than any other area in the US. Great for you. I just don't see why you keep bringing it up as if people haven't heard it before.

Although I do find it interesting that (at least from the live coverage) the presence of so many local medalists did very little to fill the stands at the meet, while places like Oregon, Penn, etc. are able to run to a packed arena, even without the presence of such high caliber athletes (at least in the case of Oregon Twilight). Maybe you should spend less time counting medals and more time actually attending the meet, since you're apparently some kind of local groupie.

the question still remains. i would like to know how many medals came out of oregon, washington, idaho, california, texas, etc. in a stat crazed sport like t&f it's natural to ask such a question. so how many medals did oregon win at recent internation championship meets was it ?

Since you appear to be the only one who cares, why don't you go look it up. While you're at it, you should also break it down by race, height, age, hair color, and whether they live in a house or an apartment. I am extremely curious about all of these factors.

track fans don't care about total medals- thats something only seen in the olympics.

Normal "stat obsessed" track fans only care about race times.

The public only cares if at the airport you can setoff the DHS metal detector ! Olympic and WC Medals count when you advertise shoes and spikes. The public won't watch nobodys on TV. Only elites and WR holders. Plus elite athletes need money to live on. TV is the only way to get money. Without the public and TV there's no Puma, no Asics, no Strands, no Nike, no Adidas. Without TV there's no 1,000,000 person live audience. That's the reality, man.

out of that 1,000,000 i bet less than 5% aren't already track fans and / or competitors at some level (middle school - post collegiate), they will likely watch any decent track meet that is televised.

i didn't bother to watch or record adidas sadly, but i will be tuned in for prefontaine and NCAA's. i'm glad adidas is doing what they are doing, i do wish we could find some better anouncers.

If you want a U.S. distance medals at Berlin 2009, Daegu 2011, London 2012, Tokyo 2016, then U.S. elites need to train fulltime for it.

Elites put their real careers on hold, live crammed up in apartments like illegal aliens, live in RVs, drive junkers. Some are lucky enough to have mommy and daddy helping out.

It's TV fans we need, money we need, subsidies we need.

There's no stimulus package for elite athletes.

Diehard fans are appreciated, but we need big TV / media and world class cities to make the medal stand.
