FAIL. Witt ran at Sherando highschool in the northern shenandoah. There were other Witts from Midlothian; I think one might have been named Ryan as well. But that Witt was way older. I should know because I got pounded repeatedly by Ryan in high school.

Jason Witt's older brother Ryan also ran for Midlothian. I think he ran about 1:53. Went to BYU also I believe. But either way, different Ryan.
Whatever happened to Logan Collins?? He was a sub 2:30 1000 and 1:54ish 800 guy in HS..haven't heard much about him though.
Also, don't forget what Thomas has done with Tasmin Fanning. 3rd at NCAA cross.

Lets see where these athletes end up before we go stroking a 2nd tier program and coach. Hell, as much money and scholarships as they have they should be even better.
Definitely agree with this...VT seems to be very good at putting out fast performances at this time of year, but we'll see what happens come Regional time. IMO, XC is where distance running prowess is measured most effectively as an entire program, and man did Virginia Tech shit the bed in Winston-Salem this year. If that is any indicator of what might happen in track (and if we were allowed to bet on this) my money would be going elsewhere at outdoor Regionals.
speaking of...whatever happened to that guy James Scheiner? He still had eligibility and I believe ran some XC races? thought he was a decent miler, but haven't seen anything this season.
Virginia Tech is a decent distance program masquerading as a good distance program right now. Come cross season, they always are faced with the reality that they are, at best, the 3rd best distance squad in Virginia...behind UVa and William and Mary, perennial XC Nats qualifiers.
somebody needs to compair uva and techs runners side by side and look at what they ran in hs and what they are running now. uva is supposed to be this high and mighty distance powerhouse but they arent...and because va tech is closing the gap you all are pissin your pants and crying hoping that they burn out or something.
VT's acc winners are all average high school guys from the state of Virginia.
UVA has guys like:
Collins - FL Finalist
Heineking - FL Finalist
Tshirthart - 2x FL Finalist
Finley - FL Finalist
Jesien - Penn Relays Mile Winner
Not to mention Taye who ran something like 4:11 in the mile as a freshman in high school and was a FL finalist.
Granted Tribble and Miller were average guys coming out of high school but the other guys were studs.
What should you make of this? It's not that UVA is doing a bad job, it's more that VT's wins are truly impressive.

Yea, I say 79 to 45 says it all. Plus UVA tied for the team title.
try going back a few years for uva. example: they had a guy who was slower than Sarah Bowman in HS who ended up running sub-29:00. the footlocker kids started showing up around 2005. VT's current situation is similar to UVA 4 years ago. eventually VT will figure out how to peak at the right time, but I still don't see them taking down UVA with Vig at the helm, dude knows how to win.
I guess if you're trying to prove that the Tech distance guys celebrate like d**kheads after winning a conference title, then you have proven your point well.
if i was a high schooler from virginia who was strictly analyzing what school to go to based on their distance running program, i would rather be coached by Vig at UVA or Gibby from WandM. thomas is not in their league right now, maybe eventually (probably not), but atleast not now.

Please stay off the boards. This type of 2nd rate recruiting/pushing of your school makes you look bad. You WERE the young "golden boy" distance coach, but now Smith is, time to moveon.org into your role as an overworked burnt out head coach who wonders if taking the reins was the right decision.
