both Mannings are better than Cutler so that makes him at least number 7. It might take him ten years to mature or he could end up being another Jeff George!

Can we please stop this notion that Elway was anything but another crybaby. Elway was the ULTIMATE crybaby when he was drafted by the colts. He stomped his foot and threatened to take his ball and go home.

Cutler never threatened to not show up when required. In fact he said the opposite. He said he would be there when it counted.

Elway also essentially told Bowlen that it was Elway or Reeves in the early 90s - another crybaby move.

It was a lose-lose-lose situation. The Bears probably overpaid, but don't have the talent for Cutler. Culter will probably not meet expectations, the Broncos are essentially starting over with a QB. Orton maybe a nice guy, but please his talent is subpar.

2 1st rounders and a 3rd rounder is pretty steep when you're bringing in a guy halfway through a 48 million dollar contract. but the bears do not have the ability to draft a good quarterback. cutler would instantly be the best bears qb since McMahon, and likely would be significantly better. And as someone mentioned they will save a lot of money from not having the two first rounders. But they will have to bring in some wide receivers this year. It was unconscionable to go with those guys last year. There is no way at all that a strong-armed, experienced, yet young quarterback who threw for 4500 yards last year is going to put up sub-Orton numbers. Only bears draftees have the 'ability' to do that.

From a more objective perspective(Dallas fan), there is not ONE QB I'd rather build my team around for the future than Cutler. The deal that was struck for Cutler supports my opinion. I'd venture to say there's not a player in the league besides Cutler (or Matt Ryan) that could command that price(1,1,3 starting QB). 4500 yards as a 25 year old? Seriously???

Another thing: You'll find out soon that Denver's receiving core wasn't really all that talented. Cutler's rocket arm would make Alan Webb look like Santana Moss out there. Which one of those guys did anything at all before Cutler?

Face it, Denver screwed Cutler over...and they are dumber than a bag of d#*&s for it. McDaniels has basically sealed his fate. 3-13 is about as good as Denver can hope for this year it seems. Horrible Defense, no running game, pitiful at QB...sounds quite a bit like Detroit in 2008.

reasons why the deal is good for chicago

1. chicago is terrible @ drafting in the 1st round.

2. 1st round draft picks cost a lot of money

3. kyle orton has 1 year left on his contract.

4. bears havent had a real QB since Sid Luckman

I'm pretty sure its an 18th pick in which you could never get a qb as good as Cutler at...and he actually threw for over 4500 yards so don't try to understate that because all of Cutlers numbers last season would destroy all of the Bear's all-time passing records...and since the Bears are mainly a run-first team I would bet that he does not have more ints than picks

Killa Mike I agree with you on everything except for the 3-13 Broncos only because of the weak division they play in, they are basically forced to win at least 6, but regardless the Bears draft choice in 2010 won't even be that low since they are likely to finish better than last season (9-7) because of Culter and other acquisitions...therefore the trade of two first-rounders and a third will not be as steep as others have stated on this thread...

While I agree with your sentiments about Orton (I think he is probably the most underrated qb in the NFL), there is no way that Cutler at this point could be worth anything less than a #12 1st round pick. He has to be worth way more than that, and the Bears and other teams like the Redskins proved this.

With a 1st round draft pick, especially with qbs, you never know what you're going to get and there is always the bust factor (Heath Shuler, Ryan Leaf). Whatever you say about Cutler, he is clearly not a bust. He may not become a superstar, but he's beyond the bust factor and still has the league's best arm. Therefore, at a minimum he has to be worth more than a 1st round pick.

You are right that he is worth more than a mid-round number one but two number one and a third pick is overpaying. Not that the Bears didn't realize it. It saves them money down the road, with not having to sign (or draft) three new players. It's all about business these days. Being competitive and winning it all is secondary. Everyone in the game is getting rich. Thats why they do it.

First round draft picks where the Bears are picking are not that expensive.

Maybe there were other teams willing to part with that price for Cutler. If it works out for the Bears and they win 12 games, go to the playoffs, and are set for years to come then it is worth it. If it doesn't then three first day draft picks is a high price and could set the team back for years to come. It is a calculated gamble.

And I can see you and a few others are star-struck by that 4500 yards figure. You clearly know nothing about the Broncos from last year, the depleted running core and the lack of a consistent running game. You think this guy will throw anywhere close to 4500 yards in Chicago? Perhaps it's the number of interceptions or the way Cutler played down the stretch in the last three games, any of which could have sent the team to the playoffs, that you should be focused on. He was abysmal -- abysmal against the Panthers, abymal late in the game against Buffalo, and a virtual no-show against the Chargers.

I don't dispute that this guy has tremendous talent. I don't dipsute that Chicago MAY win the championship with him. I invested in a bunch of his rookie cards. But this guy is not a LEADER. He doesn't possess that intangible quality that cements a team. A neighbor of mine who worked as a waterboy on the sidelines confirmed this last night when he recounted a story of Cutler laying into the kicker, yelling a bunch of expletives and calling the guy a fukking piece of $hit after he missed a kick, right in front of Brandon Marshall no less. That makes me feel even better about the trade.

Are you referring to the #1 receiver in Brandon Marshall who I believe was drafted the SAME year as Cutler or the #2 option in ROOKIE Eddie Royal? Or perhaps you were refering to the former pro-bowler from Green Bay in Javon Walker, who had one stellar season with Denver? You obviously don't know your football as well as you purport to with the BEFORE comment.

I don't think anyone would disagre that the Broncos may post their worst record since before the Shanahan era next year. The 9-7 prediction is quite optimistic. Their schedule is brutal next year. But, IF you want to find culpability here, it rests squarely on the shoulders of Pat Bowlen, who sanctioned all of these moves from the get-go. After all, it was Bowlen who, despite already having a very proficient offense, decided to go after a green, offensive-minded rookie coach instead of a veteran defense guy. As I said, perhaps this will end up being a win-win. Perhaps, by some stroke of fate, the Bronocs and the Bears will find themselves meeting up in the Super Bowl in about three years. That's about how long it will take to know who got the better end of the deal. I know one thing for sure, all of the Broncos "fans" who are already disowning Daniels, on this thread even, will be back on the bandwagon so fast in a couple of years if the team starts winning that it will make your head spin. Perhaps we'll actually finally see some "change you can believe in" for a change.

who ever thinks Orton will be good is simply wrong. Yeah he can manage the clock but when you are analyzing these two quarterbacks you have to use your eye. Orton has limited mobility and pocket awareness. Just wait and see how much better someone like greg olson will be when he has a second chance to get open as Cutler manuevers around and is able to look off 2 or 3 recievers. Orton does not have the ability to find second and third options if his initial guy is covered. So in the next two years one of those picks would of went to a qb and we all know how that worked with Rex.How can someone possibly say the bears are not better off? The question is how much are they better off?

also a Denver Broncos season ticker holder called into chicago sports talk show to give up his pre season bears/broncos tickets out of protest. So smart Bronco fans along with John Elway understand the stupidy of what happend.

Actually the Redskins offer was more or less the same in terms of draft picks, the only difference was that Jason Campbell wasn't as valuable as Kyle Orton.

Sagarin I see Cutler quite a bit differently than you do, having dealt with Tony Romo for the past couple years.

When I see him brow beat WRs after dropped passes, I see him attempting to hold his teammates to a higher level of accountability...similar to the way Jordan treated his Bulls teammates in the 90s. I think he IS a leader and has all the intangibles necessary to be a super bowl winning quarterback someday. He\'s not a nice guy....that means nothing to me. Actually I like a guy who\'s willing to take charge and mix it up. He reminds me quite a bit of a young Troy Aikman.

What I\'m afraid you Bronco fans are going to find is that sans Cutler, your team is terrible. As a matter of fact, I can\'t think of a team in worse shape going forward. No QB, and an apparently incompetent coach that ran off the face of the franchise in an attempt to bring in the noodle-armed Matt Cassel. Answer this question honestly: HOW can this situation the Broncos are in now be better than when the HAD Cutler, Shanahan, and Bates???

bears did pay a high price but they've finally got a QB. besides, they are terrible @ drafting in the first round.

all of the bill belichek(dont know how to spell his name) come into a new head coaching position acting as if they can act like he does. belichek can do that because he's got a HOF QB in Brady and 3 Super Bowl rings on his resume.

and its not definite that the Bronco's can draft good players. Shanahan was the guy who pushed for Cutler and alot of the great players they had over the years. Now there is a new head coach in there who has never even been involved in a draft. In new england it was mainly scott pioli and bill belichek.
