how bout the dude that got knocked down but got back up and got close to being in the race for the win??? i thought that was pretty incredible even though he couldn't quite get back up to the front. he definitely showed heart which comes out in alot of people when they get tripped.

GREER FROM OREGON WILL BA FASTEST MILER OUTDOORS GUY RAN 147 LAST YEAR and ran a 350 1500 this last weekend
Fleet also ran a 3:50 1500 (as a Soph!! Where he won against college comp. Greer came in 4th or so).
Fleet ran a 1:50 800 last year, that's 3 seconds behind Greer, but he was coming off a foot injury and was supposedly 20+ pounds overweight (6-2 185 instead on 160-165). He was very inconsistent last year compared to his Soph year. He never really seemed to round out into shape - probably due to his lack of base.
So I'd put his odds close to or equal to Greer's.
Fleet would have to come down 8 something seconds from his indoor time. That seems a tall order, but then again he is tall and indoor is probably not his best surface. He is also supposedly doing all base right now.
If he stays healthy and gets in the right race, he should be able to break 4:05, by how much...????
Sub 4:00 seems unlikely, but not impossible. He has the speed and his times as a Soph seems like he could make that amount of progress. I would not bet on it, but it would not shock me.

It isn't wrong to distinguish between the two distances. That is the exact reason why the term full mile needs to be abolished. To use such a terms lends credence to the idiotic notion that 1600m is a mile.

If we accept the term full mile, then we can never trust anyone's mile PR because it could be for 1600m. But if we can call 1600m a mile, then I guess we could call 1594m a mile, or maybe we can all start calling our 1500m PR our mile PR. Why the hell not, I never said it was a full mile.
Do you do the same thing with your marks? Do you call a B an A, but not a full A? Do you say it is 4 oclock when you mean 3 oclock because you didnt say full 4 oclock?

Robbie andrews is the only person i see having a legitimate shot at going sub 4. Looks who's records he broke during indoor, and his race from last years new balance games where he closed in 1:56? this kid has ridiculous closing speed and i think he's the one to look for going sub 4.
As a pro runner that has run sub 4 minutes, I would like to point out something.
It is easier for a 4:50 miler to run sub 4:15 than it is for a 4:08 to run sub 4. This is a fact.
YOu are saying it is easier for a 4:50 miler to run 4:15 in one season than it is a 4:08 to go sub 4? I don't believe that.
Don't sleep on Mcgregor, like Fleet he has barely raced for real yet (only Boston and NIN and a 4:23 sit and kick at UK), also he has some blazing speed (49.xx relay split and 50.xx open times). Hopefully we can see a mile set up with all these heavy hitters in it and something special will happen
No one has mentioned Oregonian preps Elijah Greer and Nathan Mathabane. Lake Oswego High School's Greer (future Oregon Duck) ran 1:47.68 in the 800 to win Junior Nationals last summer (against some college frosh), has a 48.1 400 split and ran 3:50.7 last Saturday at the Oregon Preview 1500 agaist the college kids. Lincoln Highs's Mathabane (Princeton bound) ran 3:52.+ in the same race. Both were good harriers last fall, also.

A relay split can be whatever someone says it is; the Penn Relays is the only meet I know of that takes offical splits for for H.S. races. I don't know much about Fleet, but, there have been very few H.S. milers with that type of speed. I am assuming this split was from last year, which would mean he is probably faster is the 400m than Andrews and Greer.
maybe some legit sub 1:55 800m guys would be willing to pace the open mile at NON to 2:00 through 1/2 mile if they couldn't make the 800 at NON or if the 800 was before the mile
Mac has stated he is going after all the San Diego County records which includes a sub 4 miles. It WILL de done by him.

No one will break the four minute mile barrier at Nike Outdoor Nationals. The national championship event isn't the place for anyone to break records, especially since no one is there to help set the pace. What all these guys need to do is meet up at a meet just before nationals where they can get some help, like the Midwest Distance Gala (where Finnerty ran 4:01 last spring) or an event like that, and really take a stab at it.
