Especially when it would have been easy to replicate a cotton singlet of the same size and color, which frankly would most likely perform worse than their new gear anyway.

Yes but we all know that since the treadmill is pulling Geb's feet backwards with every step that this is no where close to actually running a 4 minute mile.

I tend to judge the quality of a hotel by the top speed of the treadmills in its fitness center. A couple of weeks ago, I stayed at a place with treadmills that went up to 16 miles per hour. (Curiously, their dumbbells topped out at something like 25 pounds.)
I'm guessing that Geb's frequent treadmill sessions suggest that he's going after Mike Wardian's world record in the treadmill marathon. Who thinks he can do it? Keep in mind that he can't use pacers.
The world record is currently held by Eric Blake. 2:21:40 (5:24 pace). Wardian attempted to break it last summer, but was unsuccessful.
Out of curiosity, what was Eric Blakes non treadmill marathon PR? Anyone know?
Don't know if that's his PR, but he ran a 2:21:24 at Steamtown Marathon in 2003.

As an Engineer, surely you understand that the Engineering/Marketing relationship as depicted in Dilbert is non-fiction.
On a more serious note, I'm wondering if I could land a job as paid pacer for Geb's presumed treadmill WR attempt. How tough would it be to stand in front of the treadmill for two hours and a few minutes.

Treadmills are not accurate. Running at 4:00 pace on a treadmill is probably more like the effort of 4:10-4:12. Every time your foot hits, the moving platform helps you along in your stride for a few milliseconds, whereas on a real run you have to do all the work to push off and through the stride yourself.

Obviously. Anyone who's read Daniels Running Formula knows all about that (actually, the main factor is the lack of air resistance). But the fact remains that running on a treadmill at 15 miles per hour is no easy task.
What blows my mind is how EASY it looks for him. He's just saying "look at me, I'm running four-minute miles!" and fooling around with the reporters. At four-minute mile pace! Unbelievable!

I was kidding when I started this. I thought that was obvious. Hopefully you are too. I won't bore everyone with the details, but please, let's not perpetuate the myth
that treadmills are materially easier than over ground running.
At least no one has felt the need yet to wonder if he was running "full" miles or just 1600m.
If you put a treadmill on a track and run a pr on it, can you say you've run that time on the track? What about on the road? This video could change all of the rules.
If you put a treadmill on a plane how fast can you go?
