Okay I'll help you out here, but next time look at the sequence of replies and try to figure out what's going on before correcting someone.

430 said something to the effect of "he couldn't run under 4:20 after his first sub-4". Then Catch Me If You Can replied by asking if 430 was baiting someone to bring up German. This is because German recently ran a 7:57 3k after a 3:55 mile. At least 1 mile of that 3k was under 4:20, which would prove 430 wrong. Unfortunately, 430 specifically said "first" sub-4, and since Senor Fernandez had previously run 3:56, it did not prove 430 wrong, although he is still quite stupid.

And yes, I realize that was Galen Rupp's first sub-4 mile. Congratulations to him.

Guy, I highly doubt you were at the location where Galen was after his 10K, but I was. It was a bar where all the athletes were going (Abdi included) and Galen was there. He was wearing a wife beater with some over sized jeans. Quite comical really, especially given how skinny he is. But to each their own. He was with his girlfriend (the one on the NCAA cross video that he kisses after the race) and yes they were fawning over each other like youngsters in love will do.

It's creepy to me that there are people trying to slander Galen or her on here, and the whole infatuation with who he dates etc.

Most runners discussed on this board are analyzed by purely their running, but their is a small clan of Rupp haters/stalkers that have to go into his personal life. Even more disturbing is how they bring this stuff up following any of his running achievments.

Scary, disturbing, pathetic, and lame behavior that probably stems from several shortcomings on the part of the verbal sh@t slingers including but not limited to:

Insecurity

Sexual frustration

Closet confusion masked often by severe homophobia as denial

Jealousy

You have to remember, at the higher level of talent in distance running you will generally find normal people who chose a sport due to being good at it. They are capable of normal everyday life, even more than capable and tend to be pretty good people who fell into running because they had talent.

Below that you get people who are into running for all sorts of reasons. Among those are the portion that are just awkward and insecure. They are the ones that carryout the stereotype of runners being uncoordinated physically and socially. Couldn't fit into the team environment (or lacked the physical ability) of most sports but found that they could quietly join the cross country team without a lot demanded from them. So this becomes part of their life/identity.

Throw in an anonymous message board and you have the perfect storm for these individuals. Something from which they have some experience, and they can sit in bedroom corners or basements and make snide, slanderous remarks about the people that in all actuality are probably better them in nearly every possible way. So the cycle continues and all the while they fill up a false sense of importance, significance, purpose.

It's a good thing that I'm a sub 16 5k runner--and that's in grass and not on a track.

So that puts me is a very high percentile in the World as far as running ability goes, so that makes me very special.

Furthermore, I do not pick up fat chicks, wear breath right strips, or have a massive collection of running tights in the colors of green & yellow--THUS, making me more special than GAYlan.

What in the world are you discussing here? We're discussing the miserable act of slandering people and trying to create negative attributes about them and fester negative energy.

Nobody said you have to like a certain runner, or any runner. There are plenty of people who are not fans of Galen Rupp, or Chris Solinsky or any other runner. Maybe from college rivalry, high school rivalry, you don't like their form, don't like their tactics etc. It's fine and natural to have your aversions, but going to the lengths that shady characters like yourself and some of the other dark corner cowards do on this site is beyond not being a fan. It's out to prove something that likely is not so much related to the runner being slandered. It's mostly related to an emptiness or shortcoming on the part of the slanderer.
