Like one of the above posters said, MTC could tempo most of these races and do very well in the points series, probably win. Also, since teams get to drop 2 races (or 1 race this year because of the weather cancellation), they could choose 2 races to no-show. And only the team championships requires 10 to score the rest of the races only require 5. They can't have 5 guys run a tempo one weekend a month?
It is true that they do seem to focus on bigger races, especially the XC season, and want to do well at USATF Club XC. In a way, though, it's sort of humorous that they get so pumped up for the pinnacle race of the points series, and completely disregard the rest of the points series. The trophy goes to the team that wins the whole series. The winner of this one race gets a pat on the back (from themselves, not from NYRR).
