Kiawah can be a brutal marathon depending on the winds/weather. Conditions, at best, are unpredictable. I'm a big fan of the Chicamauga Battlefield marathon. It's earlier in November, 11/8, but it's a beautiful course, fairly flat with some rolling hills...overall pretty fast.

Um, a marathon such as the one that Trent offered is basically a non-option for someone looking to go 2:17. That's like offering up a local all-comer's meet to someone looking for an Olympic qualifying time in the 10,000. Don't reply to this kind of query if you think it's a waste of time, it's your own fault if you think it would save time to not post a useless reply but do so anyway.

Mississippi Coast Marathon is flat - check the results to see if anyone at the sharp edge shows
Tulsa has a good RD that puts on a good event and Valley of Fire has been very well run, albeit a bit hilly in the past but what a beautiful course
Rock N Roll - San Antonio - 1st one...probably will have some holes in it..but could draw some runners
I've gotta + 1 for White Rock though...good course ...some hills around 19/20 but overall good if you get setback a couple weeks at all

I was just looking for people's opinions in case I missed a possible marathon around this time of the year. (including outside the US).
Like Philedelphia, missed the boat and thought it was in Sept. for some reason, and now I know it's a good option, and I also learned I'm a clueless posuer. (I love letsrun though, this was expected)

It might not be a bad idea to contact the local running club in the cities you are considering to ask if there will be a pack near your pace; because even a race of 5000 will on average produce less than 100 finishers under 3 hours and even the slower end of that group spends most of the second half entirely alone and you will be far, far ahead of those folks.
