Obama is pretty far to the left for my tastes, but his appearance at this meet demonstrates that he is one darn good campaigner. Yes, the raw numbers behind showing up at a track meet may not, at least to the average pollster/adviser, make sense, but in a state like Oregon (the one place track is truly popular) his appearance will further all sorts of viral networking and excitement.
