I wonder what kind of training he does between marathons?

I know Chuck Engle. Chuck Engle is a friend of mine. I assure you, Mr. Picking Cherries, that you are no Chuck Engle.
Is this the same Spider who ran the Raleigh Marathon in 2000 in a speedo?
I consider Chuck a friend. What I don't know is why some of you try to pull him apart and judge. What have you done for charity? What hurdles have you over come? How many of you have run as often and as consistently as he has?
Chuck may pick marathons for any reason he elects, but that is his choice.
I have started running, and he speaks of how the running community is a special group of caring and hard working individuals...I don't see a lot of that in this string.

Re: Chuck Engle and the jealousy of other runners:
There was a legendary thread at the old Coolrunning.com--The Competitive Wire--where runner after runner poured it on. 95% of them mocked him mercilessly as a talentless showoff and poseur who had substituted quantity for quality. Why not train for six months and see what he could do in one peaked-for marathon? Why on earth run one a WEEK, 52 in a year? Obviously he was.....crazy/egotistical/afraid, etc.
I thought of him as a combination of performance artist and athlete, and was impressed for precisely that reason. Most of us work within the lines of our chosen sport or art-form. A few create a new sport or art-form or idiom within those fields of endeavor. It seemed to me that Chuck was reinventing marathoning: not 26 miles in a row, but 26 marathons x 2, in a row. (Minus 2, for your nitpickers. I do know that there are 52 weeks in a year.)
Chuck won many of his marathons.
Ah: now I remember the debate. Hopper accused Chuck of cherrypicking. Why didn't he train for six months and show what he could do against the competition, like the rest of the (sub-) elites? Boston, New York? Why travel hundreds of miles to small, relatively non-competitive marathons and pick off easy victories?
A few of us felt that notching a series of 2:35-2:50 marathons, week after week after week after week after week, was worthwhile regardless.
Sacrilege!
It was a very long and very entertaining thread. Hopper disappeared from sight shortly after uploading his 52nd impressive blast--right around the time that Chuck ran his 52nd marathon in a year. I don't know what ever happened to Hopper. He might have a stress fracture in his index fingers. Hunting and pecking is a stressful activity.

MAYBE YOU SHOULD ASK HIM OUT.
the guy is great, so what's is his PR?
That was the week he was juicing back up.
I know that this thread is old but since it has resurfaced - when reading about the Lake Tahoe Marathon I discovered that they also hold a "triple". Three marathons 3 days in a row.
2006 Johann Oosthuizen Middleburg, South Africa 33 8:11:08** 2:43:36 + 2:43:31 + 2:44:03
I wonder what a top Kenyan could do 3 days in a row if financially motivated?
I think I will start a new thread.
