As a former St John's runner, I know how it feels to have your team dropped without any warning. I know how you guys and girls are feeling all too well. I am sorry for you.

Ron Stonitsch was the 1969 NCAA Division II Cross-Country National Champion, a multiple All-American in Cross-Country and Track, a 4:01 miler and the C. W. Post College record holder in the one, two, and three-mile events. He also holds the Penn Relays 2 mile record (8:38). Since 1982, Stonitsch has coached cross-country at Vassar College. There he coached three runners to All-American status: Tracy Nichols (1990), James McCowan (1997), and Colin Sanders (2006).

I should add, though, that my alma mater, Northwestern University, still has no men's or women's track and field program since 1988. This, at a wealthy Big-10 university.
well you can blame former coach mike muska for that.
as for C.W.Post, goodridge from eastern michigan, ron stonisch and lananna are alums who should come up to the AD and voice their displeasure. also get roy chernock their coach involved. they all must know since they have stayed in the sport, stonisch coached at a college for while, the name escapes me. chernock has been coaching at a florida high school since retiring.

How so?

I remember hearing from a woman that was dating a guy on the team something about Mike Muska doing something not appropriate, but that is nothing buy hearsay. Whatever he did may have led to his dismissal, but the indoor and outdoor track program, as well as cross-country, were removed from varsity status by then president Arnold Weber who was simply cutting budgets to get the school back in the black. I'm sure the Daily Northwestern has published many articles on all this over the years. Surely, the debate continues.
do a search. there are posts that will allow you to conclude what muska is about. he is the reason there is no t&f/cc at northwestern. program killer.
well there is nassau but i dont think they have any team at all, theres stony brook but they suck too. i guess Long Island is a lost cause now for XC/Track. well have to follow the high schools, who are better than the college teams
There's LIU, I think they're D1.
Yea, theyre in the NEC. Most of that team is sprint oriented, theres not a lot of distance guys.
For those of you who were wondering about Joe Parks, he is transferring to Iona. To the best of my knowledge he had decided to do this before T&F was dropped at the school.
First I'd like to say that C.W. Post canceling track and field hurts not only the student-athletes at C.W. Post but at all other schools on the island with track and field who are fighting to keep it.
I would also like to respond to the comment that Adelphi struggles to support track and field. While the primary problem at Adelphi is a lack of facalities (much like C.W. Post) the administration within athletics is supportive.
The problem over the previous few years was the coaching....the coach wasn't qualified, didn't recruit well...etc.. With a change in coaching last year the athletes worked hard and had a great year (ECC men's XC co-champs/women's XC Champs - Men 4th at the regional/ women 5th - women 4th at indoor CTC - men 6th - Women 6th at outdoor CTC - men - 7th and the men were 2nd in the CTC 4x4 at the PENN Relays - beating C.W. Post).
So it is a big blow to lose a program that was one of the top 3-4 in the region at the Div. II level - don't discount Adelphi.

The Div. I LIU is in Brooklyn.
Looks like Adelphi is going to roll through the conferece without breaking a sweat. Even though the teams tied at the conference meet this past season, had they gone to a 6th man tie-breaker, AU would have won. Plus, AU smoked them at the Regional meet. Looks like they\'re only getting better while Post is losing their top-5. Also, AU went from 15th to 4th in 1 year using the same guys. The coach must be doing something right...As far as AU\'s track program, they made tremendous jumps with only a few new additions to the team. With the events that they have people in, they\'re very competitive.
But regardless, it's a shitty decision that the Post administration made. Damn football assholes. Sucks for the runners. Their track team was actually good.
post had a qualifier for D2 XC NATS adelphi had zero

I guess there's never a good time to cancel a program, but the first week of July is especially late for this, isn't it?
If I was a serious CW Post runner, serious enough to look elsewhere for next year, I'd be pretty PO'd about hearing this on July 2nd instead of May 2nd. Anyone looking to transfer could've really used the last 6 weeks.
Seems to me that when these announcements have been made at other schools they have come right at the end of the academic year in May, when budgets are being drawn up for the following year.
Joe is transferring to either Iona or Syracuse. He has not yet decided but he made the decision prior to this announcement
Iona, it's a done deal.
Good luck to you Parks. I'm glad that you're getting out.
