i was going to ask if anyone knew about what pace dk does each of his marathons. google found:

He dropped a 3:20 in there in the middle of them all, that's easily his most impressive feat out of all his stunts.

Thank you! I was just about to say something myself about all this "50 marathons in 50 days" crap. That's not some incredible feat when you consider Fox did 143 marathons in 143 days straight, only stopping because of the cancer spreading to his lungs. Put it in perspective. Dean K is taking the spotlight away from those who deserve it, especially in a time when track and field could really use a boost in audiences.

all of you have to admit that dean has done some pretty impressive things in his career. i know others have accomplished great things, possibly accomplished more than dean, but he's a well-known name and to a lot of people, a hero.

Voted the Musher guy. The two climbers are probably with Sherpas who get zero credit. Dean is just well.... an attention whore.

I also find it funny that the one legged guy challenging IAAF wasn't even nominated for the Best male with a disability.

I went with the musher guy, too, because he seemed to be the only one who actually beat other people (or dogs, or whatever). That was the only one who was actually engaged in a competitive sport. I can't bring myself to vote for some guy fishing and Dean didn't actually compete in his marathons. Name them. Not 120 miles a week, but 180 miles a week...big difference. Name another runner who ran a marathon everyday for 50 days...besides Teri Fox years ago.

Name another runner who ran the 199 mile relay by himself.

Name another runner who ran 24 hours on a treadmill.

He ran his last marathon of that fifty at NYC in 3:00:30.

Saying Dean is the best runner is like saying David Blaine is the best magician...is there really anyway to prove it otherwise?

I have no problem with Deano because he motivates fat slobs to get off the couch and run.

This thread reminds me of "XCMiler" getting robbed in the yearbook - Dean is the guy with the 6x6 photo while Jurek is XC miler relegated to the fringes. Life's not about winning - it's about being popular.

how do you know he motivates fat slobs to get off the couch and run? he motivates them to buy his books and "marvel" at his accomplishments but i have not seen any evidence that he has had much positive effect on people from a health standpoint. i'm sure that there is some joker somewhere who got motivated by it, but there also is some joker who got motivated by hearing about some other fat slob who was even more unhealthy. that's not much to brag about.

See, there is this little thing called a JOB that gets in the way of most people doing that. Last marathon I ran I spent about 12 weeks with every week no less than 90 and as high as 105 while working a full-time job. If everybody could just quit their job and run every day almost any committed runner could do it. Jeez, jog a 4-hour (or slower) marathon and then spend the next 20 hours resting up for the next day. Not very hard.

It's hard to vote for Dean, considering he's no where close to being the best ultra-runner out there. I give him props for bringing attention to the sport and being good at marketing. He needs to be put in his place, though, and I don't think winning an ESPY is going to do that.

A real runner wouldn't have to run 180 miles a week to do a marathon in 4 hours each day. By gallowalking each marathon, the runner could just run 17-18 miles of the race and walk it in the rest of the way and still finish faster than Dean.

Let's say you run 6:30s on your training runs:

18 miles * 6.5 min./mile + 8.2 miles * 15 min./mile = 4 hours

or if you walk slower:

21 miles * 6.5 min./mile + 8.2 miles * 20 min./mile = 4 hours and 30 seconds

Anyone who normally does 120-130 miles per week at a decent pace would have no problem pulling this off.

How is the dog-musher not getting any love?
